Following the completion of the champion for my squad of Nurgle worshipping terminators I decided to strike whilst the iron was hot and get the squad’s icon bearer finished off as well. You may recall that last time we saw him he looked like this:At the time I felt that he was rather waspish in the waist – all fine and well for Slaanesh’s image-conscious lovers but hardly acceptable for Nurgle, whose followers are rotund and jolly to a man. Before he saw any paint I needed to build up the belly, and give him some appropriately horrible guts into the bargain. All of that brings him to this; finished at last.
Here’s the whole squad (so far) together.Excitingly the squad’s fourth member is now almost finished so I’m going to crack on and see if I can get him done too. As before – watch this space!
Cast your collective minds back to November last year and you’ll recall this happy looking gentleman; the champion for my squad of Nurgle terminators based on the Putrid Blightkings. He’s been progressing slowly ever since but a few days ago I decided to crack on and actually get him finished. Here’s how he looked last time we saw him:
And here he is now:
And side by side with his sole (current) squadmate:
I have high hopes that I’ll get the icon bearer finished soon as well, and have even started putting together a fourth member of the squad. Watch this space!
In the last post I showed you some Nurgle Terminators I’ve been working on (still building up the gut of the standard bearer for anyone who’s wondering). Did I ride a wave of Nurgley enthusiasm and get paint on some of the models I’ve already built? Did I hell! No, I made more! Here’s the first of two new additions to my Chosen of Nurgle – a big fat brute with a flame-thrower.
As you can see the basic model is finished but there’s still a bit of work to be done, particularly around the head where I’ll be building up the greenstuff to cover the join between the Space Marine helmet, the Blightking neck and the horn. I also went for the old grey-scale images, partly because it helps cover up the jarring colour combinations from scavenged, part-painted bitz but mostly because it makes me look super arty and cool.
Joining him – and so new he doesn’t even have a base yet – is the squad’s champion.
I’m really pleased with him (no false modesty here!) especially as I’ve been wanting to use that model with the huge mouth in his stomach for ages. It’s just so classically old-school chaos, no mere warrior down on his luck and dabbling with the dark powers but a fully fledged servant of the mad gods, a walking embodiment of their savage insanity.
Anyway, thoughts on either of them? Apart from ‘put a base on the champion or he’ll fall over’. As usual comments, feedback and suggestions are welcome in the box below.
I was keen to show off some Work-In-Progress images of this guy as part of the ‘No Guts, No Glory’ series, particularly as those pieces have all been about finding out what I can do with the (amazing) Putrid Blightkings kit and this one has stretched my adventures with those particular models well beyond anything I’ve tried before. However in the end it wasn’t to be, beyond a quick snapshot here. However, unlike a lot of models where there’s a comprehensible – if only tacked together – shape fairly early on, this one stayed as a pile of disparate bits right up to the very end. It wasn’t until the last moment (and a few hair-raising eleventh-hour tweaks) that I got to see the finished piece myself and confirm that it was all actually going to work.
It’s with tremendous relief then that I get to see him finished (incarnated?). Obviously this could have been a trainwreck but I’m glad I persevered. Take a look:
He’s a fairly big lad, even leaving aside the fact that he’s in mid-air, which – in my opinion – is how a daemon prince should be (big not flying!). Here he is next to my Nurgly Dreadnaught Igorin Rotbringer.
And buzzing over the heads of the worshipful ranks of the Rotten Souls.
So what do you think? Is this another dread summoning for my daemonic legions or should I have left him to gestate in some toxic sump a little longer? Let me know in the box below.
