Infested! – Part 12

So, by the time you’re reading this, this model will already be winging it’s way even further north towards Big Boss Redskullz and the rest of the Nestorian Infestation. However due to the weird way time appears to move in the Warp, and the even weirder way it interfaces between my life (currently hectic – blame the start of a new job) and this blog, you’re only just getting to see the finished article now.

Anyway, excuses suitably made, here they are – the finished genestealer corrupted mother and her truly terrifying offspring.

And here’s the whole group, ready to begin their journey.

Nestorian Infestation Convert Or Die (6)

As they prepare to begin their journey north the group of infested civilians are unaware of a shadowy presence observing them from the shadows…

Off we go!

Infested! – Part 11

Another corrupted civilian of the Nestorian Infestation, an ecclesiarchical servitor-cherub twisted by the genestealers into a spiteful little imp.

I’ve always loved the little cyber-cherubs that appear in artwork buzzing over the heads of the Imperial forces and I’m hopeful that the recently announced Sisters of Battle re-release, currently due to emerge in 2019, will emphasise the gothic flourishes of the Adeptus Ministorum in the form of more cherubs and servo-skulls with which to decorate our models, rather than just being nuns in corsets. Who would have thought a decade ago that we’d have adeptus mechanicus, genestealer cultists and truescale space marines but the poor old sisters would still be stuck with kits that came off the ark?

Anyway, I digress. Here’s the nasty little guy in all his twisted glory.

Whilst we’re about it thank you to everyone who gave me feedback on the genestealer mother and baby I showed previously. After some deliberation I’ve stuck with the head I used originally but I have smoothed down and softened her features a little to make her look a little more female, whilst still remaining a filthy xenos. Here’s a quick shot showing her as she is currently, still part painted but well on her way towards completion.

There’s just her to finish off now to bring this project to completion, after that there are a few other irons in the fire waiting for attention so watch this space.

Infested! – Part 9

One of the things I wanted to explore with my contributions to the Nestorian Infestation was the way the airborne tyranid spores released by the genestealer cultists would corrupt all aspects of life on an Imperial world, and what better way to do that than with some tainted servo-skulls?

Where once these skulls served the Imperial authorities now they have become slaved entirely to the will of the cult, the inflated gas-bladders growing from them swollen with more spores, ready to corrupt yet more loyal citizens.

Infested! – Part 8

Well I thought I’d finished making models for the Nestorian Infestation, I thought I’d be focussing purely on painting the ones I’d already made then moving on to one of the other creative projects I’ve been juggling. Apparently I thought wrong.

In my defence at least some of the blame for this particular model needs to laid at the door of that mad and creative powerhouse and fellow blogger IRO. It was him that put into my head the idea to make a genestealer child and, like tainted xenos genetics worming their way through a once loyal Imperial citizen, once implanted the idea wouldn’t leave me alone. After several fruitless hours trying to track down a model pram of just the right scale I suddenly recalled this image from the cinematic trailer released ahead of the genestealer cultists release back in 2016.

Genestealer Baby (2)Genestealer Baby (1)

It’s a wonderfully potent image of the corrupted civilians and their family orientated outlook. Whilst their eyes see a beautiful and innocent baby ours’ see a savage monster just waiting to grow big enough to start hunting and devouring human prey. It’s a concept that lies right at the heart of what makes the genestealer cultists both so interesting and so horrifying. Whilst the Chaos cultists revel in destruction and seek only to tear down and destroy the civilisations within which they have hidden themselves, the genestealers value hard work, family and caring for the next generation. Indeed I would imagine the whole community being fiercely protective of any children, and heavily involved in their care and upbringing, especially if that baby is a purestrain genestealer.

I also realised that my plan to make a lady genestealer cultist (codenamed; Xenos Warrior Princess) for Fembruary had evolved into a genestealer hunting assassin instead. Merge the two ideas together however and I realised I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to make a genestealer mother and baby.

Of course time is now fairly short to get her painted before the early April deadline, especially other corrupted civilians still demanding attention. Time to break out the brushes!

Infested! – Part 7

Recently Big Boss Redskullz called for hobbyists to help out with the developing Nestorian Infestation, a collaborative project between himself, Helge of WilhelMiniatures and Alexander from Echoes of Imperium. The brief; to create a population of genestealer infested civilians with which to populate their world. Naturally my first contribution was neither infested by the genestealers nor technically a civilian, because I like to imagine that I’m somehow special and can cherry-pick what rules I want to follow.  Never mind, here to redress the balance we have a workman who’s quite definitely been corrupted by the xenos.

Something I’ve found interesting with both this, and the previous Nestorian Infestation model I’ve painted, has been working in what is essentially someone else’s style. This has been both literal – for example following Helge’s tutorial for the bases (painting a base green – what xeno’s witchery is this?!) and figurative, the orange overalls on this one for instance, which again ties in with Helge’s genestealer cultists, and lets me test out a scheme I’m planning to use with my own hidden dynasty.

Striking from the shadows an Imperial assassin faces off against one of Efesos VI’s new monstrous inhabitants, but who is the hunter and who is the hunted?

Thank you to all those who reassured me when I fretted that he looked too much like a goliath ganger. As you rightly told me at the time he looks a lot less like a goliath now he’s painted.

Goliaths Convert or Die

Indeed, sidetracking somewhat, this reminds me that I need to paint some more goliaths. Although progress has been slow on the gang lately I have at least found the time to build a couple more; the Irondogs aren’t dead yet!

Infested! – Part 6

In spite of my ongoing real-life business eating in my hobby time like a tyranid hive fleet with a particularly tasty planet I’ve still managed to get both my Fembruary models finished before the end of the month (cue a little self-congratulatory back-patting). Alongside the witch I showed previously I also wanted to finish off this assassin, who also serves as part of my contribution to the Nestorian Infestation. Rather than repeat myself too much those who want to know what Fembruary is should look here, those who’re interested in the Nestorian Infestation can read all about the infested population here, and those who want to know why when the brief calls for genestealer infested civilians my first contribution is neither a genestealer nor a civilian can see me justifying myself here.

Now Fembruary has started me thinking about few female miniatures I have in my collection, although given that so few of my models are even human (Space Marines non-withstanding) I feel I have at least a sliver of an excuse. Hopefully soon I’ll have some Escher gangers painted up to show you and, although they wouldn’t be seen dead without their combat heels and form-fitting outfits, will at least serve to reduce the proportion of my troops with only one X chromosome. In the meantime here’s a group shot of my favourite females from my collection.

Who needs Grey Knights? Three Imperial ladies taking on the worst filth Nurgle can throw at them.

Of course this just leaves time to offer congratulations once more to Alex of Leadballoony for making Fembruary a “thing”, and to all the miniature’s designers willing to create female subjects beyond the impractical world of chainmail bikinis.

Infested! – Part 5

Continuing my efforts to support the Nestorian infestation, and following on from the corrupted servo-skulls I showed previously I started thinking about the little cherubs we see flying around in the corners of Imperial artwork. Surely they too would fall under the sway of the genestealers and become a little more feral and spiteful than before.

As you can no doubt see he still needs a bit of work to shape and smooth out the greenstuff but hopefully this gives you some idea of how he’s going to look. I think I’ll be calling it a day after this one and just concentrating on painting but we’ll see how it goes, there’s a few crazy ideas which never really made it to execution still scrabbling around in the back of my brain so who knows?
