From the short and bearded to the tall and bearded. As I was working on yesterday’s dwarves I found myself thinking about other miniatures with impressive facial hair that I could paint for the Movember painting challenge and suddenly remembered about the ogres. As it happened the Gutlord champion of my ogre Ironguts was sitting on my desk, assembled and undercoated but otherwise untouched. Better yet I’d converted him to sport an remarkable set of whiskers. Could I get him painted up as well? Turns out I could!
Part of the joy of Ogres is although they’re big they’re actually pretty straightforward to paint so you never know, I might try to do a few more before too long.
Time to tackle some more hairy dudes in the name of Mo’vember. As soon as I saw the challenge being run at Rantings From Under The Wargames Table I knew it would be a good chance to work on my (very slow burning) WHFB Dwarf army. After all, dwarves and facial hair are practically synonymous. Enter three grumpy little Slayers from Avatars of War, in search of a honourable death.
I took the chance to mix things up by giving the third one some tattoos. Nothing fancy as it’s still an area I need to practice.
With these three done I just need to find the first one I painted and I’ll have almost finished the first rank of the first unit of this army. I told you this was a slow burning project!
Tomorrow, something else for Mo’vember – something much, much bigger and fatter…
Time to add another model to my Spire Tyrants warband, this time in the form of a very angry, chaos worshipping dwarven gladiator.
This little dude glories in the title of “frenzied rager”. Note; that’s “Rager” not to be confused with “Roger”, the man who’s hosting a Mo’vember painting challenge at Rantings From Under The Wargames Table (and who may or may not be frenzied – you’d have to ask him yourself).
Movember is an annual event in which men grow (often terrible) moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues. I’ve never joined in until now because my beard is just excellent I’ll have you know and I’m not shaving it off just to grow it again. Plus people who knew me before I grew it might start to recognise me and that’ll never do. However, if I can show some support to my brothers the world over by painting some hairy miniatures then I certainly will and thanks to Roger coming up with a miniatures themed spin on the event now I can. I’ve got a few more dwarves I’d like to tackle before the month is out, so watch this face!
