The Up-Town Ghouls – Part 1

With the Black Orcs painted up it’s time to start work on another Blood Bowl team. I ought (for a given value of “ought”) to finish off the elves, or paint up the humans that I’ve been promising to work on for many a long year, but instead I spotted a couple of werewolves from the Necromantic Horrors team sitting on the desk and thought “No time like the present”.

I really like the look of the Necromantic Horrors and they should be fairly quick and fun to paint so although I’m going to carry on making high-minded claims about getting started on those humans it’s safe to assume more undead will be shambling this way shortly.

The Git-Killaz – Part 5

Right you horrible lot! Did you over-indulge at Christmas? Good!

As it happens I’ve been a busy boy. With the end of the year looming I decided to finish off my Black Orc Blood Bowl team (minus the troll – for crying out loud will you stop going on and on about that bloody troll!). The team had reached the stage where although there were still several models to paint they were all fairy small, nothing I couldn’t handle before we reach 2022 right?

First things first we have the three remaining goblins that complete the squad of players able to take to the pitch. Let’s take a look at them.

This one seems to think he’s a bit tough. Let’s see how well that holds up when a chaos warrior is thundering down towards him…

I do like this lad’s headgear, very stylish indeed sir!

Gathered together with their mates from a couple of weeks ago, we have the goblin half of the team (joining the Orc half which I painted – appropriately – back in Orctober).

Blood Bowl Black Orc Wudugast Goblins ConvertOrDie (4)

Of course we need a full-team group shot but that will have to wait because we have a few other things to look at first. Each team comes with a couple of coin-shaped counters with the team logo stamped on them.

Blood Bowl Black Orc Wudugast Goblins ConvertOrDie (3)

And then we have a couple of balls. Again each team comes with balls in the style of the team. Do you want to see a goblin playing with his balls? You do? Well ok then…

A clever thing about a lot of the recent Blood Bowl teams is the way that each miniature can be built in one of two very distinct ways. Two sprues of models therefore give you two sets of pairs of models. In the first Orc team I painted you ended up with two sets of “clones”, each Orc was the same as their partner, until I set about converting with gusto of course! With this team there was no need to do that, and in my book that’s a very good thing. Much as I enjoy converting models it should be something that you do because you want to do it, not because you feel you have to just to end up with an aesthetically pleasing collection. Anyway, just for interest here’s all the pairs of models from the Black Orc team. Despite the name of this blog I can’t recall doing anything in the way of converting with these.

And there we have it, the Black Orc team is ready to roll. Want to see a group shot? Of course you do!

I’ve still got plenty more Blood Bowl to tackle in 2022 of course. There’s that half-painted elf team, my long-neglected humans and various undead monsters all clamouring for attention. And that troll of course but the less said about him the better!

The Git-Killaz – Part 4

Time to revisit the Blood Bowl pitch as I keep chipping away at the Black Orc team I started in October. Last time we saw them I’d painted all 6 of the orcs which just left the goblins waiting for attention. Since then I’ve been working away at painting up the more nimble and diminutive side of the team and managed to complete first one…

…then another…

…and finally a third.

I also went for the easy win of getting these two markers painted up as well.

All in all the team is coming together nicely now so I’ll aim to finish it by that ever elusive date known only as “soon”.

The Git-Killaz – Part 3

Time for one more visit to the Blood Bowl pitch for this month. As I hoped I’ve managed to get all six of the Orc players for my Black Orc team painted, let’s take a look at the final pair.

And here’s the obligatory group shot of the team so far.

Orc Blood Bowl ConvertOrDie Wudugast (6)

This just leaves the goblin half of the team to paint, plus the various counters, tokens and balls. Oh and a troll, but I’d like to convert him to make him look different to the troll that plays for my other Orc team (and yes, I’m perfectly aware that I still haven’t painted that first troll either, no need to nag thank you!). I’m aiming to keep chipping away at the rest of the team and get them all wrapped up by the end of the year (minus the troll of course – I know he’ll need a bit more work).

The Git-Killaz – Part 2

Time to return our attention to the Blood Bowl pitch now; I’ve got another two Black Orcs finished up for my new team. Not a lot to say here that I didn’t say last time, so here’s a pair of angry, muscular thugs ready to rough up the opposing team for the entertainment of the crowd.

This brings me up to four finished players on the team now so the Orc half is 2/3rds completed. All being well I’ll aim to finish the other two before the end of the month, which will just leave me with the goblins and the various tokens to paint, and they can wait (although I’ll aim to look at them, and perhaps even paint them, in November).

This also brings my total number of Orcs painted this month to 27. As ever I’d like to give a shout out to my fellow blogger and partner in this Ork-painting marathon IRO. If you’re not already familiar with his work go and check it out, he’s churning out some really awesome looking greenskins.

The Mean Green Geezerettes – Part 1

Everybody needs a bit of encouragement from time to time – even Orcs who play Blood Bowl. If my green-skinned boys want to be taken seriously in the big leagues then they need the crowd on their side – and what could be better for encouraging the fans than a squad of cheerleaders?

Orc Cheerleader Blood Bowl ConvertOrDie Wudugast (1)Orc Cheerleader Blood Bowl ConvertOrDie Wudugast (2)

I love the idea of these miniatures, they’re wonderfully silly and play up the tongue-in-cheek aspect of both Blood Bowl and Orcs to perfection. I’ve got two more on the painting desk so I’ll see if I can squeeze them in before the end of the month. Meanwhile my total number of Orcs painted in the first half of this month stands at 23, a very healthy number I reckon. I’m going to take a quick break to stretch my creative muscles on something else, then I’ll see how many greenskins I can get done in the next two weeks.

The Gitkillas – Part 1

Readers, I know what you’re thinking. “Wudugast, old pal, you’ve started at least 7 Blood Bowl teams now by my count, and you’ve not finished any of them. And the only one that’s pretty much done (just needs that damn troll…) is the Orc team. So what, pray tell, are you doing starting another Orc team? Dammit man, finish one of the others!”

Which is all fair enough, but let me get my excuses in before you lambaste me further eh! About a year ago the new edition of Blood Bowl was launched, led by a nice big box of miniatures which contained – amongst other things – the new Black Orc team. Earlier this year I was looking at it and I thought “Well, if not before I’ll paint the Black Orcs in Orctober. By then I will have completed a couple of other teams…”. Well, the second half of that claim hasn’t materialised but that’s not going to stop me cracking on with the Orc half of the Black Orc team this month (the Goblin half of the team can wait…). After all the aim of the exercise here is to tackle the pile of shame and I’m not going to achieve that if my excuse is that I’ve not already tackled the pile of shame now am I?

With these two done I’m hopeful I can knock through the other four by the end of the month – and if I don’t at least the unpainted pile is ever so slightly smaller. This also brings the total number of Greenskins painted this Orctober to 9 which means I’m neck and neck with fellow blogger the Imperial Rebel Ork who has challenged to see which of us can paint the most greenskins this month. One week in and it’s still very much any man’s game!

Flesh Golem

If only Dr Frankenstein had spent more time thinking about Blood Bowl, rather than his frankly weird and incestuous arranged marriage to his stepsister (seriously – read the book), he might have ended up creating something a bit like this…

This monstrous Flesh Golem enjoys a game of Blood Bowl as much as the next reanimated corpse.  Someday I might even get around to a team for him to play with…

The Littlest Player

After painting that Chaos Blocker the other day I was feeling the itch to work on some more Blood Bowl and dug out all the various part finished models that are in the queue. However rather than tackle any of the obvious ones my hand settled instead on this little dude. Work and other real life stuff has me running around like a mad thing right now so rather than tackling anything too big or complex I instead decided that the smallest and most straightforward model on the desk was definitely the one for me.

I picked up the Snotling Blood Bowl team last year as a pat on the back to myself for completing the Chaos Knight I’d been working on since forever. At the time I joked that buying 18 snotlings (plus 2 pump wagons and various other gubbins) as a reward for painting 1 knight made my numbers look terrible when it comes to clearing my backlog but it couldn’t possibly take me as long to get the team painted as it did the knight. Will time make a liar of me? The jury is still out… Anyway, my plan was to work on the Snotlings in short order because they looked like a lot of fun to paint but then it occurred to me that I might actually like to try playing Blood Bowl and so should work on my (at the time long neglected) Orc team so I had something sensible to learn the game with, as opposed to the famously silly and challenging to play Snotlings. So this test model was left to gather dust until the other day when I took pity on him and decided he deserved to be finished.

I wouldn’t usually make a post for a single figure that’s as small as this one, preferring to save it and post it alongside a few of its peers, however the truth of the matter is that might well be a long time coming. Once things settle down a bit I want to finish up my various other WIP teams (the Humans, the Elves and finishing up that troll for the Orcs) before this guy gets any more company. Hopefully that won’t take me quite as many years as that Chaos Knight did in the end…

Chosen Blocker

Over the years I’ve painted a lot of bloodthirsty individuals who fight for the Dark Gods, but this is the first time I’ve painted one who plays for the Dark Gods. Work and other “real life” concerns are a bit busy at the moment and I fancied painting something straightforward and uncomplicated – a description that fits this Blood Bowl loving thug perfectly!

Is this a one off or will he someday be the start of a new team? Maybe?!
