Elven Sevens

It’s time to turn my attention to another Blood Bowl team, one I’ve been chipping away at for the last couple of years; the Elven Union. I’ve not made the fastest progress with them but after several visits to the painting desk I’ve managed to complete five of them. This leaves me a long way short of a full team, but just two more players will give me enough for Blood Bowl 7’s so I decided to start with that.

I also painted a couple of markers for the team (because easy wins right?). For some reason they’ve proved to be a real pain in the bum to photograph so the pictures aren’t the best but hopefully you get the idea.

Whilst I was about it I decided to grab the Elves I’d painted previously for a quick repaint. Instead of gold and silver their armour was split into gold and a kind of nasty off-gold that at some point in time I must have liked but which now looked decidedly iffy. Plus I couldn’t remember for the life of me how I’d painted it even if I wanted to. Here’s how they used to look.

And here they in their smart new colours.

Of course we can’t let this moment pass without a group shot of the team.

As is so often the case working on these has me fired with enthusiasm for tackling the rest of the team. Then again there are various other things I’m keen to get painted so it probably won’t be straight away. Plus there’s the fact that if I paint too many elves at once my regular readers start to worry about me and I don’t want to add to their woes – the poor things suffer enough just by being my regular readers!

Excellent job Wudu, I like your new colour scheme more, and they are looking an elite team all together.

Thanks Dave! I think we’ve all had that moment partway through a project of looking at the colour scheme and saying “what was I thinking?!” Luckily this time I’d only painted 5 models, not 500…

They’ve all come out very nicely, so a good bit of progress! 🙂

These are lovely mate – nice to see them in gritty colours rather than fancy-pants, big girl’s blousey ones!

Cheers! Exactly, when I wur a lad Elves, as far as I was aware, came in two flavours. You had the wise and haunty, fair but arrogant kind who care naught for the affairs of men, and you had the kind that nailed your face to a tree if you trespassed in their forest. Dunno when they started to flounce and prance but I’m having none of it!

Nice to see you tackling these again! As for the new colors…you know, it’s crazy that I probably saw those originally and thought they were great. But next to the new metal color scheme, they really pale in comparison. Glad you took the time to ‘get them right’. Of course you paint them a third time with even better colors, then I’ll have to print out all my comments and eat my words!! 😂

Should have read “Of course IF you…”

Cheers! If I end up painting them all again in yet another different colour scheme I think it’s me who should have to print out all my blog posts and eat my words! 😂 Let’s hope for all our sakes it doesn’t come to that! 😂 Glad you like the new team colours though, I much prefer them and hopefully it’ll make painting the rest of the team a bit easier too.

Yea, it’s great that you monkeyed with them and it didn’t end up a mess instead! 😃

The last thing you want to do is start listening to regular readers other than me on this issue! The more elves you paint, the more the ladies like you, the more beautiful you become, and the better your painting gets! 😀 I love seeing elves and space elves combine and red and gold is a good scheme for elves. GW used to have some High Elves that were red, white, and gold that looked quite nice if I’m not mistaken. I hope you’ll consider painting more elves in the future because you did a great job on this group! Maybe if GW releases some High Elves for The Old World in the near future, you’ll be tempted 🙂

Haha! I think you’ll find that’s orks mate! Research proves that regularly painting orks improves your IQ, your employment prospects, and your attractiveness to the opposite sex. In fact 9 out of 10 women polled said they’d prefer an ork painter to an elf painter as a partner (true fact).

Now that said if GW were to re-releas the High Elves with new models for the core spearmen and archers I could be tempted, especially in that red and white scheme you’re describing (I can’t remember which province of Ulthuan it was but I know the one you mean). On the other hand I actually have loads and loads of elves and Eldar of all descriptions waiting to be painted so I really don’t need any more. 😉 Seriously, I have a lot more elves knocking around than most people realise, and they’re all just waiting for the great backlog purge to reach them…

      • Kuribo

That all seems very dubious to me, mate. You’ve been hanging out with the Greenskinz so much, you’re risking becoming as dull-witted as them 😀

In all seriousness, I would love for GW to do what you describe and I think the only real way to prove you have a lot of elves and Eldar is to start painting more of them 😉 We need to come up with an elf-themed challenge I reckon. The only remotely clever name I can come up with is the Elves of March instead of Ides but its not a great name, I’ll admit.

The look outstanding. Love the markers as well.

Speak, damn you!
