The Roadwolves – Part 1

Cast your mind back to the start of 2020 and you may recall me painting this gentleman and claiming that my Orlock gang was soon to be unleashed into the Necromundan underhive.

Since then however things have been distinctly quiet on this front and, despite frequent promises to the contrary, my gang from the House of Iron has been idling in the doldrums; unloved, untouched and – most importantly – unpainted. Well, at long last a few new recruits have arrived.

I know numbers are still thin on the ground but it’s a start right, a few more gangers, a leader, champions, some of those very cool looking cyber-mastiffs and they’ll be all set to make their mark on the underhive.

Once again though that might have to wait (although hopefully it won’t be another two years!) but getting these recruits under my belt has helped me recapture my enthusiasm for the gang – more will be on their way sooner or later!

In other news this is my 900th post on this blog (and we’re just a week or so past it’s 9th birthday). Who knew when I set out that my little blog would keep going so long or be read by so many unfortunate souls all over the world!

Looking good, Wudu! And while progress may be slow at times, it’s still progress! (At least that’s what I try to tell myself sometimes! 😅

  • Dave Stone

Wonderful additions to your gang Wudu, and as Azazael says any progress is good progress. Really like the different skin tones in the gang, adds a nice diversity to them, hope you can get them finished sooner rather than later, but we all know about the best laid plans, when it comes to painting ! LOL

    • Wudugast

Cheers! Aye, it’s true – sometimes I wonder why I make painting plans given how often I actually manage to follow them! Still, I’m keen to give it my best with this lot. (Don’t I always say that though).

I wanted to include a variety of appearances and skin colours with this gang. I’ve always seen the Orlocks as the most meritocratic of the Necromundan houses – if you’re tough enough and loyal anyone can be an Orlock ganger – and it’s a nice way to reflect that.

Lovely gangers mate, ol’ One-eye McHammerface is superb!! Here’s to nine more years dude 👍

  • John@justneedsvarnish

These are really nice figures! 🙂 Will be good to see more at some point! Good going on the blog progress, both time and posts!

Those are great- love thew two handed hammer.

    900 posts is impressive too.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

I for one, still lament the day I discovered your blog. But my therapist says I just need to get over it! Seriously, been waiting to see you crank out these Orlocks and they do not disappoint! One thing I might have tried, for no particular reason, is to give the lady that big hammer. I’m not sure if I have those parts, but I’d give it a go if I did. A cyber leg on one of them might be cool too. Ok, I’m getting off topic, but seeing nice work like this always gives me ideas! Happy 900 mate!

    • Wudugast

Aye, sorry about that but I’ve got to keep your therapist in business somehow! You’d probably be quite sane now if it wasn’t for me and then what would they do?
Anyway, glad you like the Orlocks mate. I wanted hammer guy to look like a really mean old goat and I think the hammer might have looked a bit big and heavy on the lady and left the model looking unbalanced. That said I do have a lady Orlock with a bionic arm and a heavy bolter, and another one who’s a knife fighter, so expect more from the female contingent of the gang soonish.

Brutal crew. Love the paint scheme.

  • snapfit

Congratulations on 900 posts! Keep up the good work!

  • Kuribo

9 years and 900 posts is a real accomplishment! Its great to see some Orlocks getting done too. I really like the scheme you’ve got going on as it fits the gang and Necromunda perfectly. I’m hoping that we’ll see some more Orlocks in the near future!

    • Wudugast

Cheers dude! I’m pleased with the scheme I’ve gone for, it riffs off the traditional studio scheme enough to be recognisably Orlock whilst still feeling unique to me and my gang. I can just imagine them hanging out in a dingy bar, two of the guys playing pool whilst the rest tinker with their bikes (and yes, I’ll have to build that some day. I should probably start by painting the rest of the gang though…).

  • imperialrebelork

Wow 900 posts and yet I still want more hehe. Great work mate I love the dude with the hammer he’s a mean looking bastard

    • Wudugast

Cheers dude! That’s ‘cos you’re a glutton for punishment! I’m very pleased with old man hammer guy, I reckon he’s a real tough nut. Roided up Goliath? Escher arena beast? Crazy cultists? Sump horror? They’ll take one look at him and sort their ideas out quick sharp! Just don’t spill his pint and you’ll do alright though.

  • theimperfectmodeller

Great looking minis Wudu and congratulations on your two landmarks. 900 posts is some going and 9 years is one he’ll of an effort. 🙂

    • Wudugast

Thanks mate! Well there’s no way I would have stuck it out all this time without the community of other bloggers that has built up here – here’s to another 9 years for all of us!

  • lordcommandereloth

These look very nice, and tie in with the one you did 2 years ago as well which is cool!
And well done on 9 years and 900 posts! An average of 100 posts a year seems good to me!

  • Alexis West

Looking good! I really like the FW Gangers for the Orlocks, need to pick those up for myself at some point.

    • Wudugast

Thanks! Aye, there’s some really nice models in the Forge World Necromunda range. The prices are all over the place of course (and always too high) but some bloody lovely models all the same.

      • Alexis West

Yeah, there’s like US$500 worth of stuff I want just from the Necromunda Hired Guns section alone. Never enough money, time, or energy for all the projects I want to do.

      • Alexis West

Also, it’s frustrating how some of them are bundled. There are a bunch where I only actually want one out of two, or perhaps two out of three models, but have to buy them all together.

  • mellis1644

They look great. Love the dark/light colours as well, that really works

Speak, damn you!
