Total Waaagh! – Part 5

It’s Week 4 of Orktober and time for another roundup of my progress, after which I’ll have just a few more days to squeeze in a final ork or two.

I’ve still not finished building the Ork Warboss who’ll someday be leading this army but I did get around to kitbashing this nob to carry his banner.

Next up another rusty Killa Kan joins the one I painted last week.

Then we have another Ork boy.

Meanwhile this boy stands ready to annihilate IRO and his minions with his trusty rocket launcher.

Last, but by no means least, I’ve finally done it! It may have taken me over a decade but Boss Snikrot is painted at last!

Now I said back at the start of the month that if I could get Snikrot painted I’d be calling this month’s endeavors a win. As you can see that goal has been achieved so let’s all agree that I have indeed won and not look too closely at our respective scores…

Oh you’re going to insist on seeing the scoreboard are you? Very well – this week brings me another 6 points so the tally for the month now stands at 20 points. Meanwhile my painting adversary IRO has put on another burst of speed and extended his lead even further – at the time of writing he has 32 points under his belt. I’m no quitter but I think it’s safe to say I’ll need some very fancy footwork indeed to catch up to him now.

    More great looking models there!

Great minis Wudu and a valiant effort to address the score balance. I fear the rule change to include scenery may prove your downfall as this strikes me as an IRO strength. That said I recall no rules on the size of said scenery so I guess some very, very small pieces count too leaving you with an opportunity for a late burst perhaps? 🤔

    • Wudugast

True – I think the scenery is where IRO has really shone this year. I think 3 points for scenery is fair, as it’s a lot bigger and often more complex than a single infantryman, but it’s definitely given IRO a fighting advantage from the start. As it happens I do have a load of ork scenery I’d like to get done at some point and so I wondered about bumping it up the queue but I still need to assemble most of it (which would mean time away from the painting desk) and at the moment it’s not really a priority for me. Plus I’m moving house soon and terrain is so much easier to shift when it’s unassembled! Who knows though, I might tackle it next year and turn the tables on him for my big comeback in 2023! 😀

You need to choose a side you cheeky bugger. Don’t trust TIM Wudu. Only last night he was whispering sweet nothings into my ear too. 😉

  • John@justneedsvarnish

These are great, particularly Snikrot and the Killa Kan (I’m sure Snikrot’s got too many eyes)! 🙂 You do have a small advantage in that (relatively) Orktober for you finishes later than it does for IRO! Regardless of the final outcome you’ve both turned out some impressive minis and scenery!

    • Wudugast

Thank you! Hmmm… You’re not wrong there, and suddenly it all makes sense – of course he’s in the lead, he started painting before me! In that case we can all relax – I’ll make up the lost ground after he downs tools on the 31st! 😀

  • imperialrebelork

Yayyyy 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Well done in Snikrot mate, he looks fan-bloody-tastic!
Love the killa Kan too. He’s a bit more colourful than the last one and I think I prefer him. The rocket launcher Ork, although threatening, will need more than a couple of little bombs to stop me 😉. Can’t wait to see what other green surprises you have before the month is over my friend

    • Wudugast

Cheers dude! Aye, I liked the blue and yellow scheme of the first kan but I think it’s a bit too subtle and it’s overwhelmed by all the rust. The third one will be a bit brighter, like this one.
Yeah, I know it would take more than a rocket launcher to stop you but even slowing you down would count for something at this stage! 😉

Excellent work throughout Wudugast, and nice to see the classic Snikrot painted so well, a personal goal like that is always a huge win in my book.

    • Wudugast

Thank you! Aye, in some ways I can’t believe its taken me so many years to paint Snikrot up, especially as he’s one of the few models I actually went out and bought on the day of release (back when cash was in short supply for me too). On the other hand I like to think my painting has improved a fair bit since then so I guess if I had painted him back then I’d probably be re-painting him now anyway…

Lovely stuff mate, Snikrot is an absolute peach of a mini & very nicely done! Personally I wouldn’t include any terrain in this little comp… terrain doesn’t have green skin!

  • lordcommandereloth

These are looking great, I really like the kitbash, is that parts from a Black orc set? And good work on Snikrot!

Tips to beat IRO: Don’t sleep. Don’t use the bathroom. Only eat food that you can sip through a straw while painting. Also, use the JNV trick of rearranging your minis and taking another pic of them. None will be the wiser and you get double the points! Seriously though, love seeing these and I always root for the little guy! Snikrot getting done is just too cool. As is the Killa Kanz. I guess it’s the clunky robot look of those things, but every time I see one I end up smiling! That rocket launcher guy is really cool too, don’t know that I’ve seen that mini before. Great work my man and good luck on the house move! Hopefully it’s to a place with more space and you’ve got your painting area staked out! 😀

    • Wudugast

Well I tried all your suggestions but it just wasn’t enough! I’ll just have to switch to the “food through a straw, extra strong coffee and adult nappies” technique earlier in the month next year. I shall regain my lost honour by any means, fair or foul!

Glad you like this little lot mate, the Kans and Snikrot are long-standing ambitions and the rocket launcher guy is just such a cool looking character.

Anyway, time to start packing – there’s certainly more room at the new place and I’ve got my painting space staked out but it’s going to be a little while before I get to unpack and enjoy it.

      • Faust

Good to hear you’re moving to a place with more room and have a painting space! Hope the move goes well and catch you on the flip side! 😀

  • Kuribo

These all look great and you weren’t kidding when you said I’d like this post. The Killa Kan came out really nicely. I like the da’ Boss too though! Its a great sculpt. I look forward to seeing what else you can finish up before the competition ends. Or if you want to be a sneaky git, take some pictures of stuff you painted a while ago and get yourself another tie haha! 😉

  • Pete S/ SP

    Fantastic- love Snikrot.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

Speak, damn you!
