Total Waaagh! – Part 4

Well here we are at the end of week 3 of the great annual Orktober painting battle between the Imperial Rebel Ork and myself. After IRO’s storming start to the month and my fairly dismal performance in week 2 a lot of people will have sensibly written me off so it’s time to come back swinging.

First of all we have this clanking, smoke-belching, rusty monstrosity; a Killa Kan. I’d quite like to add a whole squad of these to the army this month but we’ll see how it goes.

Next, another ork boy…

…and another of the new Beastsnaggas.

Lastly we have a couple of the new Kommandos. Have I mentioned how much I like these models? I like them a lot! This boy is ready to smash the door and unleash havoc!

Whilst his mate is a vicious knife-fighter, and he’s ready to get all stabby!

So let’s see what that all adds up to. To keep things (relatively) fair we’re using a scoring system which you can find out all about here. As a vehicle the Killa Kan is worth 2 points, whilst each of the orks (plus Varag Ghoul-Chewer who got his own post earlier in the week) is worth 1 point each, making this week worth a total of 7 points. Add that to the 5 points I scored in week 1 and the 2 I scored in week 2 and we find ourselves with a grand total of 14 points with just over a week left to go. IRO still has a lead on me but I’m back in the game (note “in” not “on”) and there’s still everything to play for as we hurtle towards November and our cataclysmic showdown.

I’ll admit, I was chewing my fingernails off over here! But looks
like you’re just starting to reveal your money cards! Or whatever they say in Poker! Seriously, great looking minis. It’s hard to pick a fave, as they all are really well done. I guess I’d have to go with Knifey just for the laughs. A knife fighter with two blades. but then he’s also holding on to one in his teeth!! 😂 I think I would have thrown a bunch of spare knives on his pack and maybe one on his leg too, just for total overkill! 😆

    • Wudugast

Don’t forget the knife strapped to his leg! Yeah, you can’t have too much dakka and I think it’s fair to say you can’t have too many knives either (shout out to any Joe Abercrombie fans who might stumble across this comment!). Sorry I’m wrecking your fingernails but you know what, the contest wouldn’t be the same without a bit of tension would it? If IRO wants to beat me he’s going to have to work at it!

Love the Kan man. Really cool. Tidy work on all the green skins but that Killa Kan is mean. I had a feeling you’d hit us with a bigger post and more green skins you can poke a Grot-Prod at hehe. Well done sir. I love a close match.

    • Wudugast

Cheers dude – you know I couldn’t let you have it all your own way right? I need to double check our scores but I think I’m not far behind you – better get back to work dude! It’s a lot more fun when it’s a close match though, I wouldn’t want to hand out a thrashing (or receive one for that matter!). Glad you like the Kan, all being well I’ll have two more done before the month is out – if so that’ll be a longstanding ambition achieved.

Lovely job mate, that old clanker is great! (I would totally love to see a whole army of these too!!)

    • Wudugast

Thanks mate! Yeah, I’d love to have a proper dreadmob someday, complete with Stompas and Gorkanaughts (although those would need a fair bit of conversion – I’m not a big fan of the Gorkanaught in particular, especially for the cost of the thing). Right now I’ve got two more Kans I’d like to paint by the end of the month. I’ve also got a couple of Dreads but I don’t think I’ll get to them in time, plus a very old and battered dread conversion from before the plastic deff-dread was released. He’s had a hard life and is now in multiple bits but I can rebuild him (I have the technology!) I just don’t have any suitable legs for him currently. Maybe next Orktober his hour will finally come round again.

Excellent work as always but more importantly you are back in the running! 🙂

  • John@justneedsvarnish

These are all spot on, but that Killa Kan is definitely my favourite!

    • Wudugast

Thank you! It’s hard to pick a favourite but I think the Kan might win it for me too, if only because I’ve been meaning to paint it for so long. Might get two more of them done this month too if all goes well.

  • Kuribo

Oh wow. You’ve been sitting on some of your best work of the month for as long as you could, I see 😉 I do love Killa Kans. I think they’re my favorite ork unit despite never having painted one myself. The Kommandos are awesome too. They have a lot of personality to them so credit to GW and yourself for that 😀

    • Wudugast

Thanks mate – and sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you, I’ve been devoting every spare moment to painting orks (you know it is, all things must be sacrificed in the struggle against IRO!). Glad you like the current crop – the kans turned out to be surprisingly straightforward to paint. If you like killa kans and kommandos then the next post should be right up your street (and, assuming all goes well, so should the one after that…).

  • templeofthutmos

Always love the Killa Kans. Great work on the models! I keep meaning to pick up a set of the Kommandos. Love many of the new-ish sculpts from GW, though I continue to be torn by how much harder they’ve made conversion/customization. Oh well, a trade-off I suppose.

    • Wudugast

Cheers! I really recommend the new kommandos, they’re everything I was hoping they’d be. It is a real shame they’re not more kitbash friendly (although nothing is unconvertable if you put in the time I guess) but at least the base models are bloody gorgeous. I’m more annoyed by the boys – you can get 20 unique kommandos by building them straight out of the box, which is plenty to be getting on with, but only 10 boys which is hardly the mighty horde of greenskins that we dream of.

      • templeofthutmos

I bought myself two boxes of the new boyz to try to flesh out one shoota and one choppa squad. The kitbashing to keep them unique has been a challenge. Gorgeous sculpts though. Love the nobz. I’ll have to pick up a kommandos kit soon.

    He’s a Killa Kan
    Gunpowder, he’s a fan
    Dynamite and a buzzsaw hand
    Guaranteed to blow your mind!

Also, is it just me, or does that Beastsnagga Boy look kinda like he’s wielding a weaponized can opener? 😉

    • Wudugast

Ha! There’s a song I’ll never hear the same way again! It can join “I’m just a boar-boy nobody loves me (he’s just a boar-boy from a boar family)”. And then there’s the Mad-Boss song from the other week, and the old classic “Waaagh! Wot iz it good for? (Smashing loadsa humies, say it, say it, say it again)”. In fact, I can feel an Ork musical coming on…

    • Wudugast

PS: Oh and yes, I thought the same thing – that’s a can opener if ever I saw one. The Killa Kan takes a careful step back…

  • Carlo

Arrrrgh you all! You make me want to buy tons of Orks I’ll never have the time to paint!! 🙂 You and IRO are truly putting out an outstanding waaagh.

    • Wudugast

Haha – that’s how I feel whenever I look at anyone else’s blog! I’ve usually started at least three new projects in my mind before I even have breakfast! Glad you like them – even if I am leading you into temptation! 😀

  • Dave Stone

Wonderful work Wudugast, the detail work on the Kan is exceptional, hope your plan works out for the final week, and interesting to see which of you ends on top this year.

    • Wudugast

Thanks Dave – I really enjoyed the Kan, getting all those details may have slowed me down but I’m very pleased with the results. As for which of us is going to win this year have you seen the score IRO is up to?! I’m painting like a fiend here but he’s relentless!

  • lordcommandereloth

These look great, I do love the little killer can!

Speak, damn you!
