The Shadowland Lowlifes

The other day I was thinking about Blood Bowl teams and pondering how I could cheat and behave in a devious manner in order to achieve my aims (in this case to have lots of teams painted up and ready for a game). That’s when it struck me – if you want dastardly rascals look no further than the Underworld Denizens team; truly a bunch of scheming ne’er-do-wells if ever I saw them! For the uninitiated the Underworld’s teams are made up of a mixture of creatures which make their homes in dank caves deep beneath the earth and emerge only to play Blood Bowl before slinking back into the gloom. The team draws upon the dubious combined talents of goblins (of which I recently completed a team), snotlings (of which I have plenty already painted), skaven and a big guy such as a troll. In other words all I needed to do to get another Blood Bowl team up and running was paint a few rats – and having already painted hundreds of them for WHFB I reckoned that would be no bother.

Having poured over the rules for literally minutes, and applied my next-to-nonexistent knowledge of how the game is played, I concluded that the best thing to do would be to paint up one each of the available Skaven positions, starting with a gutter runner…

And just like that another team is formed and ready for sporting glory!

It’s been a while since I painted any Skaven so this was a refreshing reminder of how much I enjoy them. If only Games Workshop would do something to refresh the range in a serious way *hint-bloody-hint*. In the meantime though I might well come back to these furry little guys soon and turned them into a full blown Skaven team. Not yet though because the next little while is going to be all about the greenskins!

That’s a great looking underworld team!

When I think of you I think Orks, Chaos and Skaven! Nice nasty little critters you’ve got there man

Brilliant! Lovely minis & good shout mate, Skaven are pretty decent in BB

Cheers mate! Yeah, I hear good things about them and they were super easy to paint so I reckon I could get a team ready without too much bother (famous last words and all that…).

Very nice! 🙂 If I had a tail I think I’d use it to throw things!

Great job on these and congrats on another team down! I really like the colors on that Blitzer, well done! The Underworld can also take Snotlings now. I tried and tried to play Underworld, and I suck at them worse than when I played Skaven. You really should paint up the rest of the Skaven for a proper team though, as they are a blast to play. They crumble quickly, but it’s ridiculous how fast they are. Plus I want to see what you do for the Rat Ogre! 😀

Cheers mate! Yeah, I think I will tackle the Skaven team soon – these were pretty straightforward to paint so all being well I think they should be one of the easier teams (for me) to get finished. Plus you’re not the first person who’s told me they’re a lot of fun to play. As for the rat ogre I happen to have one on the desk right now, he’s just gone on hiatus whilst I concentrate on painting orcs. Expect to see him popping his furry snout out into the world in November!
What do you think of the new Amazons by the way?

      • Faust

That’s awesome, I really need to get that team painted sometime. I’m not sure how easy they are, as it’s been awhile since I looked at them. Mine will be a bit more colorful and I’ll probably paint a bit differently than I used to, so it will be an interesting one either way. Rat Ogre will be fun to see, but I know what you mean about getting some Orcs done. I’ve got a lot I’m working on, so it’s going to be tough to fit the Orcs in. But I also need some for the module I’m running, so it’s good that I jumped them up the queue. On the Amazons, I just caved an preordered the box plus the Spike! Issue. If it was another 2 boxes for a team, I’d probably have skipped them as prices are going up. I saw some pics of the sculpts and I think they will paint up pretty nicely. Probably a good way to get my daughter to try out Blitz Bowl at some point too.

Lovely models- I like the little detail of the spiked bands on the rat tail.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

This is a great way to get some Skaven in the painting queue and I must admit, they turned out really nicely. That is an excellent looking team and despite their short stature, I could see them performing well on the pitch!

Very cool, mate! I love how you’re able to just knock out a half-dozen skaven to that stanard like it’s nothing (or present it like that, anyway – I know the work that goes in behind the scenes!)
And another team for the table – I’m certainly jealous of you there – well done!

    • Wudugast

Says the guy who churns out well painted models faster than most of us can breathe! Well – now you know how the rest of us feel when we see your progress! 😀

      • Azazel

Huh. You know, I never thought about it that way…

      • Wudugast

Oh it is by now means a criticism! We all have busy lives and lots of other commitments that need to be attended to. When I see someone consistently turning out high quality models it’s inspiring, it reminds me that if you can find time for yourself to get some painting in then I can too. 🙂

      • Azazel

Oh, no I didn’t mean it that way. I actually feel like I need to get a lot more done in the time I have to paint to get through all this stuff without really taking note of how much other people paint as individuals – as opposed, I guess to seeing a bunch of cool models here, and there, and there, and there, and… while wanting to get all the things done myself.

      • Wudugast

Oh I see what you mean – and yes, I feel exactly the same. I think we’re both very prolific painters, but also people who’s eyes have turned out to be bigger than our stomachs when it comes to buying miniatures. I’m excited about the idea of getting it all painted but I certainly have a lot of days when I look at it all and think “When the hell am I going to get all this done?”. Once again the blog proves to be very useful because I can look back at everything I’ve painted and realise that yes, I did manage quite a lot – even if the “to do” pile doesn’t look any smaller!

I’ve no idea if Blood Bowl is played in the sewers but if it is then my money is on these guys. 🙂
