Cursed City: Octren Glimscry

One of the heroes (if that’s the right word) of the Cursed City game is the dubious character of Octren Glimscry. Octren is a founder member of the order of wizards known as the Pact Mortalis, who are just as jolly as they sound, an organisation dedicated to finding the secrets to immortality by any means necessary. He used to be best pals with Torgillius the Chamberlin, until the latter stole his research and ran away to become a lord of undeath and one of the leading villains in the game (still unpainted sadly but his time will come…). Now Octren is out to give his old pal a serious shoeing and get his research back (to use it for good, obviously, who could think ill of such a charming and friendly-looking old man?).

We still need at least two more characters painted up before we can start adventuring in the Cursed City but, after a long time of not much progress, getting Octren finished is another step in the right direction.

Love the colors ! Man, that crack on his back was a bear to fill and smooth … Mine isn’t painted yet, though !

    • Wudugast

Oh don’t mention that crack *grinds teeth* Part of me wishes I’d done more to cover it over but another (perhaps wiser) part of me councils that the perfect is indeed the enemy of the good, and the prime factor in why I’ve got such a backlog. I’m determined to use this year to knock through as many outstanding projects as possible and if that means I don’t take the time to sort out things like that crack every time they appear then that’s a sacrifice I’ll need to make. Still damn annoying though, someone at GW deserves a stern talking to for that. Anyway – crack aside – glad you like him! 😀

Creepy, but in a nice way! That doesn’t really work does it? Very nice paint job indeed! 🙂

    • Wudugast

Haha – well we’ve had “disgusting but nice” so why not “creepy but nice”?! I guess it depends on the context in which the phrase is used – I wouldn’t recommend it for a dating profile or a CV for instance! 😀

    must not convert into techpriest

That’s my inner monologue, no matter what I’m looking at. This is why I’m no longer allowed to go near the cat – although personally I think she looks damn good with mechadendrites.

Nicely done mate – weird model for sure, but certainly a fun one what with all those books he’s lugging around!

    • Wudugast

Cheers mate! Yeah, he’s a funny looking bloke isn’t he (nothing wrong with that mind you – people say the same thing about me). I think he needs those books to break up what would otherwise be a large area of otherwise very plain robes, they certainly made painting him more entertaining.

Very nicely done as always. I like the idea of immortality but only if I can remain young too but I guess that’s not possible and why the city is cursed!

    • Wudugast

Cheers! Yeah, you’re not wrong there! I had hoped to never grow old but I appear to have settled for never growing up… As for Cursed City I can’t help but wonder if they regret the name as the game has been plagued with bad luck and dreadful PR since it was released. Next time round they’ll probably release a game called ‘profitable and very sucessful city”!

Nice job on him- a creepy looking fellow.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

  • Kuribo

He is a sketchy looking bloke if I’ve ever seen one 🙂 I like his purple cloak as well. Its great to see you getting back to Cursed City as there are plenty of cool minis to paint there.

    • Wudugast

It’s just such a goldmine of cool miniatures isn’t it? I always feel a bit spoiled for choice when I go rummaging through those models for something to paint. I was actually a bit disapointed that the first expansion just reuses already released models (cool though they are) – I want more creepy miniatures damn it! 😀

      • Kuribo

That was a bit of a miss on GW’s part in my opinion too. I was curious from a painting perspective what might come out next for the game. Now I wonder if there will be much else that comes out for Cursed City!

  • John@justneedsvarnish

. . . and I’m thinking I should maybe be wishing you Happy Birthday about now! 🙂

  • Azazel

    Huh! Happy birthday young man!
And nice work on the old man to go with it!

Speak, damn you!
