I showed a load of scatter terrain recently and commented that I also had a large ruin from the original Warcry starter that I’d been intending to get painted for quite some time. Time to get it finished then eh!
Of course just because it’s done at last doesn’t mean I can rest on my laurels, there’s still all the terrain from the Catacombs and Red Harvest sets to tackle. I’ll see about attacking one or other of those soon, although I also have various bits of 40k terrain that I’d like to work on too. However before I get onto any of that I took the opportunity to set out all of the fantasy terrain I’ve completed. As it turns out I’ve got enough for a little town – albeit one that seems to have fallen on hard times! As ever clicking on the pictures will let you see them full size.
So there we have it, a whole ruined township ready for my various tribes, gangs and warbands of the Mortal Realms to beat each other up over. I must admit it was a real thrill seeing all the terrain assembled properly (not to mention finding a few models to decorate it with), I really recommend mustering everything you’ve got completed as a way of boosting your enthusiasm for a project. More will undoubtedly follow but for now I’ve removed one of the biggest unfinished models from the desk – and of course immediately filled the space with lots of other things which are already clamouring for attention…

I have to admit, that is probably the nicest ruined township I’ve ever seen! 🙂

Truth be told I’ve lived in worse houses than some of these, although that probably says more about me… 😀

Nice terrain, looks like a characterful board!

Thank you – I’ve aspired to a decent set of terrain for a long time, it’s a good feeling to have the fantasy side of things up and running at last.

Looks superb matey, lovely stuff!

Thanks mate!

Very nice table that you’ve got for yourself there.
Cheers,
Pete.

Thanks Pete – another long-standing hobby ambition achieved. 🙂

Your terrain puts the grim in grimdark, mate! Its always awesome seeing a full table of terrain and I think you should be proud of how yours came out. You have to be getting close to being able to play Warcry now whenever you want, I would think too which is always a good thing.

Cheers mate! There’s nothing quite like a table full of terrain is there? And after all these years it’s great to be able to break out the terrain and a couple of warbands and play some games in the comfort of our own home – just need to do the same for the 41st Millennium now. 🙂

Great looking game setup! Love it when everything comes together like that.
June 22nd, 2022 at 10:22 am
Thank you – now I need to find time to get a game in on it! 🙂
June 18th, 2022 at 6:23 am
Looks great but of course your next step is to mount it on a board and turn it into a diorama! 😉
June 22nd, 2022 at 10:24 am
Now who would do a thing like that? 😉 Seriously I’ve always aspired to a board like that, with all the buildings, trees and other features mounted in place. Of course I’d still have to keep the models separate so I can push them around going “pew, pew! Aaaarge!” and so on!
June 20th, 2022 at 10:48 pm
The whole thing looks superb! Even as a backdrop I’d use that as an excuse to take up a table forever!
June 22nd, 2022 at 10:26 am
Thank you! I think if I left it set up on the dining table forever sooner or later my wife would have words… That said she does want a gaming space/table somewhere so the day may well come, we’ll have to move somewhere a bit bigger first though.

WOOOW !! So good mate, and I am totally with TIM on turning it into a diorama!! it would win any show that’s for sure!!
June 25th, 2022 at 7:27 am
Cheers mate! Depends – are you and TIM entering this show? I wouldn’t stand a chance! Dioramas are one of the things I’ve not really done in all the years I’ve been hobbying, definitely something I’d like to try some day though.

Mate I’m sure as a young guy it’s something that you can think about later on in your modelling travels🤔this comes from an old guy that said seven odd years ago that he would never even think about doing fantasy dio’s 😅😅😅

Oh that’s come up really nicely. very grim and moody and with a slight chill to it all. Excellent work on this, mate!
June 25th, 2022 at 8:29 pm
Thank you! 😀 Aye, it is a little cold and ominous isn’t it? Makes me think of the Mordheim board I always aspired to back in the day, which undoubtedly subliminally influenced my painting.

Great looking board after you got that together! Makes me want to play some Frostgrave again, haha! Love the ‘Oh, there’s an old statue head, let’s just build on top of it!! I’m sure it’s stable enough, right?!’. Did you make the walkways or were they part of a kit?
July 2nd, 2022 at 9:28 am
Thanks man! There’s something about putting together a board like that which just makes you want to grab some models and play a game on it doesn’t it? The next place I live I’d like to have space to set up a board permanently (of course I’d also like my own personal space ship and I’d say that’s almost as likely to happen but a man can dream right?).
The walkways come as part of the kit, I think most/all of the Warcry boxes have included a few of them. In years gone by I used to make my own but these ones are very nice and I’ve got no shortage of them so I just use them now.
