Time for some ominous shaking of leaves and creaking of branches as two Tree Revenants emerge from the woodland depths.
Nor are they alone, the archer Ahnslaine of Ylthari’s Guardians joins them, ready to rain arrows on those who disturb the woodland depths.
Every time I paint Sylvaneth it comes home to me how quick and straightforward they are and I assure myself that I’ll hammer through the rest of the warband in short order. Work is absolutely flat out at the moment so I make no promises one way or the other but it would be nice to get this project completed so I’ll see what I can do.

These are amazing, you colour choice of “skin” and weapons really wofk with the wood.

Thank you! I took a bit of a gamble with the bluer skin but I think it works nicely. The weapons, oddly enough, use the same recipe as the Necron weapons (and the skin of my Savage Orcs for that matter).

They are lovely mate, I really like your more woodsy fae take on them
May 25th, 2022 at 8:29 am
Thanks mate – I think a lot of people (GW included) tend to paint them as friendly woodland folk, whereas I prefer to interpret them as spiteful murder-trees. 😀

Oh weird, I totally didn’t recall the minis with the way you painted the skin. Nice touch and I think they look much cooler than the ‘standard’ paint scheme!
May 25th, 2022 at 8:34 am
Thank you! Not so weird actually, you won’t remember seeing them with that style of skin because until now I’ve only painted one model from this range that had any “flesh” on show (a spite revenant), the others were all wood. The spite revenant had green skin so I used a similar recipe for Ahnslaine, the blue-green skin of the tree revenants was a bit of an experiment but I think it worked well and helps to differentiate the different kinds of units within the warband. 🙂

Now those are really nice! 🙂

Thank you! 🙂

Great figures Wudu old chap and good to see you branching out! 😉
May 25th, 2022 at 8:36 am
Cheers mate – I see you’ve twigged to what I’m about. Some might say I’ve turned over a new leaf, but most people think I’m just barking…
May 25th, 2022 at 8:36 pm
I think you got to the root of the matter! 😉

Sylvaneth are the new Necrons!!! They don’t get any easier to paint than this. Just basecoat, wash, and dry brush and you’re most of the way done 😀 Both of these came out looking great and I think they’re quite haunting minis in their own way.
May 25th, 2022 at 8:47 am
Yup – I’ve often thought that if I needed or wanted to paint an AoS army in a hurry then Sylvaneth would be the way to go. Speaking of Necrons the weapons of the tree revenants use the same paint recipe as the Necron weapons, goes to show what a difference context makes. I’ve got a couple of Necrons on the desk at the moment too (did the weapons at the same time) I ought to get back to those before I get distracted…

Creepy as hell. Love it
May 26th, 2022 at 7:49 am
Cheers man – as a gardener these must be your worst nightmare! 😀
May 26th, 2022 at 10:58 pm
Haha well there’s always bougainvillea
Have you seen the size of the thorns on those? NUTS!
May 27th, 2022 at 7:58 am
Grim! I have an old scar on my hand that I got from a rose bush but I tell people I was in a knife fight.
May 27th, 2022 at 10:18 am
That’s funny because I’ve got a scar on my hand that came from a knife fight but I tell people it was from a rose bush.
May 27th, 2022 at 12:31 pm
And let me guess, the warden refused to even listen to your story and just went on and on about how there aren’t any rose bushes on your cell block and you could forget about early release. Man, why are those guys always so unreasonable?

I know right. I’ve got a plan though. I’ve been doing his books for years (free accounting labour) but what he doesn’t know is that I’ve been making notes on all the little “discrepancies” and will be getting him busted. That’s after I’ve dug a tunnel out of this prison using only a small rock hammer. Then, eventually, I’ll meet up with my old friend Red.

It wasn’t until a month went by that he finally opened his mouth to say more than two words to somebody. As it turned out, that somebody was me. “More Orks”.

Wow mate a complex figure if I ever saw one!! well done.
June 9th, 2022 at 8:55 pm
Cheers matey – I must admit they were very fiddly but I let washes and drybrushing take the strain – and buried the mistakes in the details!

😅😅👍🏻

These look really nice – the green skin on the archer is a nice take as well. I might use that when (if!) I ever get to painting mine!
February 20th, 2023 at 8:56 pm
Cheers! You’ll get around to them someday, I have every confidence in you. 🙂 Anything Sylvaneth can be counted as an easy win I reckon so they’re good for those days when you just need something nice and straightforward.

You’re not wrong – honestly, it’s the prep that makes things harder – assembling, cleaning and basing models!
Back when all we had were metal t’was a much simpler task….
