War Eternal – Part 10

It’s been a while since I added anything to my Khorne warband but I still love the bloodthirsty bastards and at long last I’ve managed to arrange some new recruits. First of all have this Blood Reaver equipped with a mighty axe with which to hew skulls for the Blood God.

Now if you thought that was a massive axe you ain’t seen nothing yet – this Blood Warrior takes things even further with this suitably OTT weapon. I hear his rivals have really been loosing their heads over it!

These aren’t the only Khornate savages I’ve got on the desk either but the others will have to wait for another day!

Very nice mate – I love the ridiculousness of that second chopper 😂

    • Wudugast

Cheers mate! It’s very silly isn’t it, I reckon they (GW) designed it to knowingly take the mickey out of their own tendency to sculpt outsized weapons. “You think the axes carried by the rest of the squad are too big do you?! Well take a look at this!”

  • Faust

Those are some serious Pom-poms that second guy is sporting! Go team Khorne! In seriousness, they look great! Question for ya, which Necromunda gangs have you managed to finish up?

    • Wudugast

Haha – well if you want Team Khorne you’ll have to dig back a little bit into the archive to find the Khornate Lineman I painted earlier in the year (oh alright, here you go: https://convertordie.wordpress.com/2022/01/28/khornate-marauder-lineman/). The rest of the team will appear in due course…

Let’s see, Necromunda gangs that are finished (for a given value of “finished” that is, I’m planning to add more models to all of them in time); Goliath, Escher, Cawdor, Van Saar, Genestealer Cults, Helot Cults. I’ve not got as much done with Necromunda lately as I’d like but it’s still very much on the to-do list, in fact I’ve got a bunch of Orlocks that I’d like to tackle in the near future, as usual it’s just a case of finding the time.

      • Faust

Thanks man, just checked out your Khorne Lineman. I still have a box or two of Orlocks myself. I don’t plan on playing with the GW rules, but I’d maybe play the team with some alternate rules down the road.

      • Wudugast

I hear you. I love Necromunda, the background is fantastic and the models are top-notch but the rules, yuk! Honestly I struggle with GW rules in general, Warcry is the only game of theirs I’ve found to be fun and straightforward to learn. There’s just so many parts to the Necromunda rules that are unnecessarily clunky and awkward, and for a game with so many bolt-ons, modes and expansions that really hampers things. I’ve actually given up trying to learn the game, every time I pick it up I find myself starting from scratch and getting frustrated all over again. I want to be immersed in the setting, I want to head down into the Underhive with a bunch of other low-life scum and beat the hell out of our rivals over some ghastly, toxic, mutie-haunted bit of turf. I don’t want to spend a few hours pouring over the rulebook trying to remember which stat does what, and how to do very basic things. The plus side to not playing as part of a group or a club is that it’s my roof, my rules – especially as none of my mates are active gamers and when we do play a game they look to me to guide them through it, not show up with their own dog-eared copy of the core rules and a clear idea of how to play. So with that in mind I’ve gone back to an old rule set I was involved in writing about a decade ago and started converting it to Necromunda. Work is pretty full-on at the moment so I’ve not had a lot of time for it but I’m having fun already, might even get some games in soon if I can rope in some poor scummer (probably my wife – don’t tell her I called her that) to test it out with me.

      • Faust

I hear ya. Before the Kid that Will Not Sit Still, I’d probably cobble together my own rules as well. Once I start playing Stargrave, I’ll probably see if there is enough there to use with just some modifications. The lazy side of me kinda just hopes they will come out with a Post-Apoc style book for the game and then I’ll just use that. Necromunda is a theme that has peaked my curiosity for a good long time though, and I’d definitely be interested in returning to it with some clear simple rules. I’m pretty sure Alex@LeadBalooney has suggested some to me in the past as well. I won’t tell your Wife you called her a scummer, but it’s gonna cost ya an extra ration of corpse-starch!

Really nice mate. Love me some Reavers. I remember the box of 20 came out and I had to convince my wife that 90 Australian dollars was a bargain when it came to 20 of anything from GW haha.

    • Wudugast

Cheers man! Aye, the reavers are great, just nice straight-forward barbarians – can’t beat them! 90 dollars sounds really expensive but I’m not sure how that works out in real terms. I know GW stuff is a real gouge out your way though (to be fair it’s a gouge here too, but I know it’s a lot worse with you). I seriously can’t figure out their pricing though, I’m sure they make it up as they go along – and then double it just to be on the safe side.

Always nice to see some Khorne minis and I love the ridiculous two-handed weapon! It fits the followers of Khorne so well. I like how you’ve eschewed the typical red and brass for these minis. Alternative Khorne color schemes are pretty awesome looking, I think 🙂

    • Wudugast

Thank you! Aye, if anyone is going to have a stupidly massive axe it’s a follower of Khorne (or an Orc – but as everyone knows Orcs is da best). I’m going to paint my Khorne Blood Bowl team in red and brass, partly because I’ve never used that colour scheme for a Khorne model. It looks good and it’s fun to paint so for me it’ll be a nice change I think, but there are just so many other schemes that really suit them but which are criminally underused. Some factions really struggle to look right in anything other than the studio scheme but Khorne is incredibly versatile I find.

  • theimperfectmodeller

If I ever become rich and famous then these guys would serve as ideal bodyguards I reckon. 🙂

    • Wudugast

Yeah, none of your crazy superfans, autograph hunters, obsessive stalkers or members of the paparazzi would make it past them to badger you about how you make those dioramas! 😀

  • John@justneedsvarnish

Those two are nasty, in a good way if that is indeed possible! 🙂 I really like ’em!

  • Azazel

That’s a great looking pair of Khorneboyz! You’re making me want to dig a couple more out of my own to get painted…

Speak, damn you!
