Time for two downhive lowlifes turned religious fanatics in the service of the Chaos Gods. Amongst the ranks of the Chaos Space Marines the Dark Apostles serve as a priest class, conducting the bloody rituals, preaching the savage creed and interpreting the will of the Gods on behalf of their battle brothers. Of course this is a lot of work for one man and so a Dark Apostle worth his salt soon recruits a few Dark Disciples to assist him. The Disciples are then on hand to waft cursed incense, stab hapless victims at appropriate moments, tidy up afterwards and even be fed to a summoned daemon themselves if no-one else is available.
Again these are “neglected models” which have been sitting around three quarters painted for at least a year. Together they make a pair of characterful additions to both my Chaos Marines and Necromunda collections. At some point I’ll need to get the Dark Apostle himself painted but he’s not a priority for now.

Nicely done mate, these wee dudes are super characters in their own right – I feel sorry for poor old lectern guy!!

Nicely done mate. Every fighting force needs some religious guidance!

Thank you! 😀

Cheers! Yeah, poor old lectern guy really should have read the small print before he joined the cult eh!

Yeah, puts a whole new spin on ‘membership includes free literature’ 😳

There look great, mate! I mean, I wouldn’t want to be one of them but they’ll fit right in with the rest of your servants of chaos 🙂 I’ll be excited to see the Dark Apostle when you’re ready to paint that one as well. It is a cool mini and worth taking your time on, I’d say!

Thank you! Yeah, it looks like a pretty terrible gig doesn’t it? “We have a vacancy for the position of ‘guy with a book nailed to him’. The starting pay is dreadful but in six months you could see yourself promoted to ‘daemon food’”. Wow – sign me up! 😉
I really like the Dark Apostle, I just need to get around to him and right now I’m still all about knocking out those key projects. That said I sense that there’s plenty of Chaos models on the horizon and that should inspire me to get back to them. Like you say though he’s not one to rush, he’s such a nice model I’ll want to take my time and get him right. 🙂

Haha, well said! And take your time and wait until inspiration strikes. That is the beauty of a sizable backlog, you can cherry pick whatever you’re in the mood to paint, whenever you want!

I always preferred these figures to the character they are meant to be supporting.

Cheers! I know just what you mean, there’s some very cool hangers on in 40k (hmm… Codex: Hangers On – there’s an army I would play!).
April 12th, 2022 at 2:48 am
Great job on these. Agreed with Pete – the little weirdos that hang about the fringes of Space Marine art were always far more interesting to me. I have a soft spot for the poor souls that get turned into walking lecterns.
April 23rd, 2022 at 9:12 pm
Thank you! Yeah, I really wish they’d make a kit for all the weird servitors/serfs/general crazies that you get in the fringes of 40k artwork, for me they make the setting what it is. Every Imperium army should have a few of them scattered around just doing their thing on the margins. 🙂

That would be outstanding. There are some great kits to steal from when converting something like that (I’m thinking some Admech, Genestealers, Necromunda, Empire flagellants, etc.), but a dedicated kit would be amazing.

Nice work on these chaps. The minis are very characterful and you’ve really brought them to life.
April 17th, 2022 at 10:00 pm
Thank you – they’re really nice models aren’t they? I had a lot of fun working on them. 🙂
April 15th, 2022 at 6:48 pm
They look great. Very charismatic and unique models are always good to me.
April 23rd, 2022 at 7:50 am
Thank you! Yeah, models with lots of personality always appeal to me the most. 🙂
May 16th, 2022 at 5:39 am
Very nice mate! I truly love the one with the green flame.
May 19th, 2022 at 5:57 pm
Cheers – I thought that might appeal to you. 😎 It was fun to do as well, I’ve tended not to be too keen on sculpted flame and I still think it’s overused but I’m starting to enjoy it all the same. 🙂

Very nice work on these ones! – I quite like these models and they don’t look as through they’d be terribly hard to get painted either….

Thank you! I would definitely categorise these as “easy wins” (and very nice models to work on too) – if you’re looking through your backlog for such a thing you could do a lot worse than these lads…
