Nun With A Gun

I’ve been tempted more than once to paint some Sisters of Battle since the range got revamped a couple of years ago. There’s certainly no denying that they are incredible models, some of the best that GW produces, so when I saw some being sold off at a knockdown price I decided to give them a go. Since then I’ve been messing around trying to work out a colour scheme I liked and Fembruary seemed like the perfect moment to focus and get one of them finished.

I did enjoy this one so expect to see more of them sooner or later. But not this month because time is running out and I’ve got a few more Fembruary projects I’d like to sneak in before we’re done.

When I comes to colour schemes you can’t go far wrong with red. Looks great mate. 🙂

Cheers! Aye, red always looks good. For a while I got into the habit (ha – unintentional nun joke there) of using it with every colour scheme, something I’ve tried to wean myself out of (but damn it, it always looks so good!). To be honest the colour scheme I’ve gone for here is essentially a modified version of the studio scheme, but toned down a bit and made a bit grubbier, which suits my taste.

Very nice indeed! 🙂 She looks very purposeful!

Nice work- there are some great minis in that range.

There really are some cracking models in that range. I’ve been tempted to start an army of them, and I surely will again, but I reckon I’ll put together the ones I’ve got (maybe a Kill Team would be a good way to go) and then see how things go.

I’m a fan of the nuns with guns! This one came out great and it is in the trademark red and black Wudugast scheme I see too 😉 Did you consider any other color schemes for this lady or no? I have a creative color scheme I say I’m going to try out with a Sisters model one day. We’ll see if I ever find the time to actually do it 🙂

Haha! Aye, it’s a fair point, she did essentially end up in a grubby version of the studio scheme didn’t she? Initially I wanted to do something with lots of red, something similar to the Bloody Rose scheme, but at the time I was working on lots of Ad Mech and decided that I should try doing something a bit different. I still wanted to bring in some of that darker red (Khorne Red, as opposed to the Mephiston Red that I’ve used more widely in my collection) because I’ve used that for Ecclesiarchical in the past and I reckon it looks good, and it makes for a theme through my collection. I tried silver and red and it just didn’t work, so I kept making the metal darker, and darker, and darker… and in the end it turned into black armour and red cloth like the studio models. I still reckon it looks good though so I’m not going to loose too much sleep over it. 🙂 Looking forward to seeing what you do with yours when you get around to her (Fembruary 2023 maybe?).

Sisters tend to be some combination of white, black, and red which I think does them a disservice. They can be in other colors and look great. Of course, those colors do look really nice and fit them well, but when its all you see, it starts to lose the effect. 2023 is a possibility… I feel like I have a lot of display projects in the queue already and I’ve already told myself once I get this Stormcast done, I’m going to crank out a lot of gaming minis and terrain because I want to get some games in this year. That’s a long way of saying, my backlog has become pretty large 🙂

      • Wudugast

Aye, I hear you, I’m very much looking to get the backlog under control at the moment myself. Again that was actually a big part of what made me settle on this scheme, it may be a bit “obvious” but I’m happy with it and the time I might have spent mucking around trying to come up with a different scheme can now be put into getting something else finished instead! 🙂

      • Kuribo

Thinking about color schemes and even testing them will certainly slow you down! If you figure out the secret to managing your backlog, do be sure and share with the rest of us too 🙂

Lovely mate. When I saw the title I couldn’t help but think of the song “cows with guns” haha. Do you know that one? If not you have to YouTube it. Bloody funny

  • Azazel

She looks great, Wudu. I’d say looking at it makes me want to paint some of my own Sisters, but thanksfully, I’ve got a different model that you’ve inspired me to do that I need to finish before i worry about adding more! 🙂

Speak, damn you!
