Right, let’s get this Fembruary party started with another Orc cheerleader for my Blood Bowl team. She joins her sister that I painted back in Orctober.
Go team! Go team!
As with last year I’ve got loads of models from the backlog and I’m going to try to batter through as many of them as possible. Last year I managed 21. This year I suspect it will be rather less, the first couple of weeks of the month look set to be pretty busy, but we’ll see how it goes.

Very nice work on these, mate. More worthy additions to your Blood Bowl collection at that. Are these some of the only female orks GW makes? I can’t think of many myself!
February 6th, 2022 at 8:11 am
Cheers mate! Yes, as far as I know these are the only female orcs/orks that GW makes (in fact I don’t recall any others at all even back in t’ Oldhammer days). Usually GW’s orcs reproduce via spores because they’re a kind of fungus. In 40k when an army of orks is destroyed the bodies of the Boyz break down into spores, and if you don’t burn the bodies ASAP you’ll have colonies of feral orks springing up in remote areas. Hence no lady orcs.

I thought so and I do vaguely remember something about orks and spores now that you mention it! That would certainly prevent the need for female ork minis 🙂

There is an uncanny resemblance here between your excellently painted figure and how SWMBO looks when I return home late from the pub. 😉
February 6th, 2022 at 11:29 am
I believe that may have been the reference the sculptor used! Nah, I shouldn’t say that, I’m quite sure that SWMBO is an excellent and extremely long-suffering woman. When you stay late down the pub she probably enjoys the peace! 😉
February 6th, 2022 at 11:57 am
Indeed she does. She enjoys it even more when I go and play golf for the day!

Wow, completely forgot about FEMbruary this year. I do have some figures, so I better get cracking!
As for your ladies – your skin tones are perfect and the faces are really superb!

Thank you! They’re really nice models, definitely ones where I wanted to give them my best efforts. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for Fembruary! 🙂

Looks great! And such a mean looking sculpt as well – I thought they were 3rd party models at first from the pics!
I always felt that the whole “No female orcs – we have fungus instead!” thing GW did was stupid and a real missed opportunity.
February 14th, 2022 at 1:56 pm
Cheers! Aye, in some ways it works but in others it’s definitely a missed opportunity. I’m surprised they didn’t change that aspect of the background when AoS arrived actually. I think the 40k Orks work well as they are, they’re very well established and I don’t personally feel there’s anything missing there or a need to add in some lady Orks. Whereas bringing in female Orcs with AoS would give them a great opportunity to grow the faction beyond its WHFB roots. I think this is especially true with the Kruelboyz (Kruelgurlz?), their aesthetic would be a nice fit for female Orcs.

I suppose it keeps them from feeling any need to sculpt lady orks/orcs or add in the same variety of torsos/heads that they’re now moving to do with the other races. Keeping it simple does have a bit of an aesthetic cost, though!
