Nothing fancy today, just a nice, old-fashioned beastman from Knightmare Miniatures.
To me it looks like he’s shouting “You kids, get off my lawn!”. Or in his case probably “You elves, get out of my woods!”.

I don’t recall seeing Beatman figures before. I suspect you’ve done loads and I haven’t paid attention but this little chap does look rather neat. 🙂

Cheers! I’ve done a few over the years but actually not all that many. I’ve always been fond of them though so I reckon I’ll try to do a few more soon.

I’m creating a Mordheim beastman Warband and this is a great look for them.

Yeah, this guy would be perfect for Mordhiem. Check out Knightmare Miniatures, they’ve got a great range of old-school Chaos models (and Orcs, Goblins… basically if you like old lead give them a look). I got this one through a kickstarter they ran but I reckon he’ll be properly released by now.

Really nice job on this characterful mini! There is definitely some classic Warhammer inspiration with this one. They sure did love their chainmail on older sculpts as well 🙂

Thank you! Funnily enough I was thinking about chainmail on these older models the other day. My suspicion is that it comes from two things. Partly it’s because fantasy miniatures have their roots in historical miniatures, and throughout medieval times chainmail was very much in vogue for a warrior. Secondly when sculpting in greenstuff chainmail and fur are relatively easy (even I can do a passable bit of chainmail or fur and I’m no sculptor). So if you were just learning, or you had a blank gap on a model that you needed to fill on a deadline, then slap a bit of chainmail on it. Nowadays it’s associated with the Oldhammer style so even a newish model like this one needs a bit of chainmail as a nod to his roots. Just my guesses mind you.

I share your hunches too. There must be a reason why they used it so often and I suspect the fact that it was easy and could make a sculptor’s life easier in a variety of situations made it so ubiquitous!

Nice work! Funnily enough that mace head looks like it was taken directly off one of any number actual of oldhammer minis!

It probably was! Glad you like him. 😀
