I meant to paint this guy back in Orctober alongside the rest of my savage orc warband, but somehow I never managed to get him finished. Then I decided to paint some more lads at the same time as him, but right now I haven’t even got around to assembling them. Then I thought “stuff it, let’s just get him painted”.
Of course now I’ve actually finished him I’m feeling the bug of orcy enthusiasm again so I might just dig out some unbuilt models and start sticking the rest of the clan together at last.

Nice one mate – he might be a towering wall of brutal muscle in-game, but he’s a cheeky wee scamp irl 😊

Cheers man! “Cheek” being the operative word there – “that’s no moon!”. 😀

Nice work here. I reckon those savage orcs, orks, orruks, are underrated models. I don’t see nearly enough of them. Maybe it’s because it takes Wudugast skill levels to get the tats looking good.

Thank you! I don’t know about that, it’s taken me years to get the hang of tats and warpaint, and even now I mostly just copy better hobbyists. If the end results look good though that’s all that matters right? These are definitely under-rated models though, I didn’t think they were anything particularly special until I started painting them (although I suppose I must have gone through a brief infatuation with them when I actually bought them) but I’ve grown to really love them.

Excellent mate now put him to the side and I won’t tell IRO you’re one up when you start the next round. 😉
January 18th, 2022 at 10:45 pm
Shhh… Good thinking, let’s keep this secret! Actually, now I think about it, I’ve got over a hundred orks I’ve already painted, do you suppose he’d notice if I reposted them in October and claimed they were all new? 😉

Nice classic scheme. Really like the warpaint. I feel those were the colours of primtive Orcs in the old Warhammer lore books.
January 18th, 2022 at 10:47 pm
Thank you! To me those old savage orcs are still how I envision them today. I know there’s a new setting for them to live in, and new background for them, but to be honest they’re Savage Orcs – that is to say they are Orcs which are savage. Don’t overcomplicate things Games Workshop, conceptually it’s perfect as it is! 🙂

I agree. Also a neat concept that works well with Orcish traits, but i don’tmind refined Orcs either. thinking of it, Rackham had a great take on them, kind of between the two GW stereotypes.
January 20th, 2022 at 9:42 pm
Yeah, I think that’s part of the joy of Orcs – they really take well to having additional ideas bolted onto them (so the Space Orks of 40k, the heavily armoured Black Orcs of WHFB, the mountain orcs from Rackham etc) but equally they’re really cool when they’re “just orcs” as well. Actually I have some of the Rackham orcs tucked away somewhere, I must dig them out because they were awesome models.

I still have a pile of Goblins. Apparently Temple of the West is releasing a new version called Confrontation Continuum. New sculpts etc. Really exciting.

Saaaay whaaaaaat?!!! Awesome, just googlin’ it right now, looks awesome so far. 😀

Very nice- a great figure.

Thank you!

Nice work painting this greenskin up, mate! Is he carrying that skull around as a shield? That is impressively primitive if so! If IRO wasn’t so preoccupied with Turnip, I think he’d take you painting this ork as a personal challenge and another painting waaagh would break out! 😀
January 20th, 2022 at 9:39 pm
Cheers mate! I think it’s supposed to be a drum, he’s hitting it (and probably anyone else who comes in range) with the bone in his other hand. Wot’s this I hear about turnips bein’ betta than Orks?! I’m gonna have to have words wiv dat IRO if he doesn’t sort his ideas out!
January 21st, 2022 at 2:12 am
That makes a heck of a lot more sense to me 🙂 You get that IRO lad sorted out, mate! 😀
January 19th, 2022 at 10:18 am
It’s funny you say that because just the other day I was thinking I should paint some Orks soon. It’s like a drug haha. He looks great mate. I love how he’s holding the skull, so protective of it like some snotty little Grot might try and pinch it from him
January 20th, 2022 at 9:46 pm
Cheers bud – there’s only so long you can go without painting Orcs before you need a fix right? I think every hobbyist has one or two armies that will always be right at the core for them (so for me it would be Orks and Chaos, for you I’m going to guess Orks and Imperial Guard). We go off and do other projects but we’ll always come back to those ones because they’re at the heart of the hobby for us.
Yeah, he’s not letting that skull out of his sight is he – some light fingered gobbo git isn’t going to be thieving it on his watch!
January 20th, 2022 at 11:31 pm
Nothing worse than being fingered by a gobbo hahaha. Bang on mate, guard and orks are my all time faves, hence the blog name, but it’s always fun branching out into other factions and bits and bobs.

I like how this guy turned out – and yeah, finishing models is it’s own curse of “that was fun, I’ll do another couple of those now!” which may or may not get completed within months or years….
January 25th, 2022 at 8:27 pm
Cheers! Yeah, I thought you’d be familiar with this phenomenon. Since I painted him I’ve been very excited about all things Orcy, dug out the box of Savage Orcs and the Boar Boys and… painted up some Imperial Guard and a Beastman…

yep, yep. Sounds completely familiar…
