Most of the warbands which have been made specifically for Warcry are made up of various sorts of barbarians who like to spend their days beating seven shades of shit out of each other for the glory of the Chaos gods. Most, but not quite all. Alongside these violent and generally underdressed loons we have the Khainite Shadowstalkers, elves who serve Morathi the Shadow Queen as spies and assassins. Branded with the magical shademark they can pass almost any barrier, and slip with ease into the wartorn Eightpoints to do a bit of murdering on their queen’s behalf.
I’ve been fancying the idea of painting up a warband of these shady characters lately, and have been experimenting with ways of creating the effect of shadows on their robes and cloaks. These two were painted very much as an experiment but I’m pleased with how they’ve turned out so expect to see their colleagues emerging from the gloom in the near(-ish!) future.
This doesn’t mean I’ve stopped working on my Spire Tyrants of course – as regular readers will know by now I can’t have too many Warcry warbands!

Nice! 🙂 I like the swirling cloaks, very dynamic!

Thank you! The cloaks are cool aren’t they. I do find effects like that difficult to work with but I decided I needed to man up and give it a go, pretty pleased with how they turned out. 🙂

Really cool mate! I looked at these as a painting challenge but just couldn’t see how to approach them! I like what you’ve done though, I’m filing this away for future reference 😊👍

Cheers man. 🙂 I had the exact same feeling about them for quite a while, in the end I just started with the parts I’d figured out and then gave it my best from there.

Well, it worked dude, they look fabbo!

Nice job mate, a lot of movement in the sculpts

Thanks man – they’re really dynamic aren’t they? Mind you, they are filthy elves, if they stand still for too long an orc will come along and give them a kicking!

Very nice- black is a hard colour to shade well but it looks like you have got it spot on there.
Cheers,
Pete.

Cheers! It’s hellishly tricky isn’t it? Mind you it made for a fun painting challenge so I’m glad I went for it in the end. 🙂

Black and blue looks very nice together. GW’s painting team has really been using it more and more and I think the relatively recent Chaos Space Marines releases really show it off. This group of minis are great so this is a great opportunity to see what you can do with them painting wise too. I think this first one came out very nicely and I’m excited to see more!

These were definitely a challenge; using mostly shaded black or shades of grey combined with swirly magical effects (which I always find tricky). They were fun though and I’m pleased with the results, I’ll try to get my teeth into some more of them over Christmas. 🙂

Oh, these are very, very nice. And then I found out I don’t have these models. So I emailed my GW supplier asking for them (and the firey dudes from the same week – missed those too). So thanks for costing me money, I guess!

Wait what? There are miniatures that you don’t own?! How did this oversight occur? Glad things have been put right and further disharmony to the universe has been averted! 😀

I know, right? Especially since these are the sorts I usually buy!
OTOH, there’s been a lot of GW’s overly large, overly expensive and and overly complex models of recent years that I just go …uhhhh nah – maybe later. Or not at all.

Very nice figure Wudu and love the work on the cloak. 🙂

Thank you very much mate! 😀
