With my army of Skitarii continuing to grow it’s about time a Tech-Priest Dominus arrived to take charge of them in the Machine God’s name. These are the masters of the Cult Mechanicus; ancient, sinister and barely human, machine lords who crush innovation and gladly see entire legions slain and worlds ruined in pursuit of their own, often incomprehensible, goals. And we’ve all had a boss like that at one time or another haven’t we?
I worried about painting this guy, he’s got so many details on him that I feared he might prove to be quite fiddly and a bit of a chore. As it turns out though he was a lot of fun to work on, and he really looks the part of the cruel and strange tech-wizard I want commanding the army. Next up I’ll be trying to finish up the rest of the Skitarii squad, whilst work on the Onager Dunecrawler continues apace.

Super. I really like the choice to bring out some of her technical doodahs in blue and green; it contrasts very nicely with the red coat.

Thank you – I reckoned I needed some other colours in there to make everything pop. 🙂

Lovely and grimy! The tubes feeding into his arm and the liquid in the tank on his back being painted in the same blood red is inspired; as if he’s on continual dialysis. Really draws attention to the frailty of what little of his flesh remains

Thank you, that is exactly the impression I was going for. It’s something I often try to emphasise with my Ad Mech, they may seek to become more and more enmeshed with the machine but they are still human, and human beings are not machines but organic creatures. The more of that original humanity you take away the harder it becomes to maintain what is left.

Yeah, that’s bloody brilliant mate – definitely a daunting prospect, but you’ve nailed it 👍

Ah this will be the detailed figure you mentioned the other day that you were working on. Very much in contrast with the simply posed one but equally excellent in its finished state. Fine work in deed. 🙂

It is indeed the very same! Glad you like him, definitely a change of pace after the Astropath!

Thanks mate – it would have been very easy to chicken out on this one if I hadn’t set myself the deadline, goes to show what can be done if you give yourself a push though. 🙂

Great work, really got him looking creepy!

Cheers – he’s a scary dude isn’t he!

Very nice work on this guy, mate. He looks great in the Wudu house style! If you can believe it, I tried to paint this mini a year or two ago and didn’t get on with it. I can’t remember why now but I think it is harder mini to paint well than you’d think at first glance so I’m glad to hear you had no issues with it!

Thank you! I can certainly believe it, he’s the kind of model where – if I hadn’t set myself a strict deadline to work to, I could easily have succumbed to analysis paralysis. Just keeping my focus and deciding to give him the best paintjob I could manage in the time and no more was all that saved him from a few years of dusty shame at the back of the shelf! 🙂

Absolutely superb mate

Very very nice. I think there’s a real risk on models like these with so many the details just turning into a visual mess, but you’ve pulled it off in a way so it looks visually cohesive, and even with that – the nice touches of colour using blue and green.

Thank you! That was very much a concern for me honestly, I thought this one could very easily turn into a lot of work to end up with a visually messy model. The trick for me was picking a few areas to emphasise and not going too detailed on the rest.
