Back in February I put together a Warcry warband of Daughters of Khaine, based around the Blade Coven from Warhammer Underworlds. The only model from the Blade Coven which I didn’t paint was the leader, Morgwaeth the Bloodied. Her moment, however, has come at last.
With her done the whole set of bloodthirsty elves are ready for action.
Who knows, perhaps someday I might even try playing Underworlds!

Lovely bronzed flesh! Also… That TMM looks as nice and sharp as the good NMM… May I inquire what brand of gold you used? (I keep comparing them, to make sure the reflections are at totally different angles at each picture… But the richness of hues and sharp reflections all look painfully intentional!)

Thanks very much man! Yup, it’s TMM and if I dare say it myself, it’s come out rather nicely hasn’t it? For the entire time I’ve been into the hobby I’ve really struggled with gold but just in the last year or so I’ve finally got the knack I think. It’s actually very simple (all the best techniques are in my book) – just a good coat of Retributor Armour, then a wash with Reikland Fleshshade. Then layer back up with Retributor Armour and then a quick edge highlight with Liberator Gold and you’re done.

It does truly look magnifucently rich, smooth yet sharp and to scale… Thanks a lot for the recipe!!

These look brilliant. The golds and reds are really bold!

Thank you – I wanted them to really pop although hopefully they don’t look too garish. 🙂

Very cool mate, that’s a great looking warband!
November 19th, 2021 at 10:19 pm
Cheers very much mate!

Very nice- the game is pretty decent too.
Cheers,
Pete.

Thanks Pete! I must try it at some point. All the emphasis on it being super competitive has always put me off (that and I’m not really interested in deck building card games). That said I’ve had so many people say it’s fun so I really must check it out properly.
November 20th, 2021 at 1:22 am
I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed it as it is really not my thing. It is competitive in the sense that everything is laid out in an unambigious way but we don’t get uptight about it when we play.
Cheers,
Pete.

Sounds like we definitely need to give it a crack then. 🙂

She’s fantastic. I’m getting some Wonder Woman vibes too which is cool. I like the blood around the goblet, nice touch. The Warband looks brilliant too.
November 19th, 2021 at 10:30 pm
Thanks man! Wonder Woman – I knew there was something familiar about her but I just couldn’t place it! That kind of makes her even cooler for me. 🙂 Never thought I’d say this but I’ve really enjoyed working on this warband even if they are filthy elves – who knows, there might be a few more of them in the future!
November 20th, 2021 at 8:01 am
Individually they all look great and collectively they look truly excellent. Agree with IRO (!) about the wonder women vibe. 🙂
November 20th, 2021 at 11:12 pm
Thank you! Dear me, agreeing with IRO twice in the one week – you feeling alright mate? 😉
November 21st, 2021 at 7:50 am
A little light headed to be honest! 😂
November 20th, 2021 at 4:20 pm
Very nice! 🙂 All of them! I think IRO’s right about Wonder Woman, but she has come out really well indeed!
November 20th, 2021 at 11:19 pm
Thank you! There’s definitely something of Wonder Woman about her now it’s pointed out to me. It’s not so obvious on the other models in the warband (especially the ones that are half snake!) but to be honest I think it suits her. Now I just need to convert up an invisible jet!

I reckon she’s the best looking mini of the group but they’re all pretty awesome. The group shot really shows off your painting well, mate. In hindsight, I think this is one of my favorite Underworlds team and I kind of wish I would have picked it up when it was widely available.

Thanks man. 🙂 It’s a odd set of models isn’t it, at first glance it doesn’t really seem to be all that but the more you look at them the more they unlock themselves. I know you’d do a cracking job with them, in fact I’d be very curious to see what you did with a Daughters of Khaine model. You can still get them direct from GW’s website if that’s any help.
November 22nd, 2021 at 2:50 am
The Daughters of Khaine is a faction in AoS that I like but haven’t been able to find a single model I’d like to paint (that won’t take forever like Morathi) but a cheap box from Underworlds would make it so I can paint one and not feel bad if I can’t finish any others so thanks for the suggestion on it being on GW’s site. I haven’t been on there much lately as I have lots of other projects to tend to but I shall have to have a look around 🙂
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:20 am
Morathi is just amazing isn’t she? That’s one of those miniatures I really aspire to but at the same time I know I could either paint her to the standard I’d want to, or paint about 700 other miniatures (to the same standard) so up to now I’ve managed to keep resisting. I really like the Melusai Ironscale too, that model has centrepiece written all over it!
November 24th, 2021 at 2:48 am
I somehow missed Melusai when it came out. That is a great model and a much more reasonable size too. That one could work its way into my queue. Thanks for mentioning it, mate! 🙂

Very nice. The skin tone is just perfect and the rest of the colours complement it very nicely. My only question is whether her blade is bloodied from slaying her foes, or if she just spilled her cup over it.
November 21st, 2021 at 10:37 pm
Cheers! I’m pretty sure it’s the former, I think you can get banned from the Daughters of Khaine if you’re caught doing the latter! 😂
November 22nd, 2021 at 4:02 am
She and the others came out great. Love the skin and hair details. Great stuff
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:22 am
Thank you very much! 🙂
November 27th, 2021 at 11:41 pm
Excellent work on her – she looks great and really caps off the completed warband!
