Time to add a tech-priest to my growing army of Martians and my eye fell upon that most bulbous of the Omnissiah’s servants, the Tech-Priest Manipulus. He’s a funny looking little dude and quite complex to paint, which proved a struggle at first but in the end turned into quite an enjoyable challenge.
Like the squad of electro-priests I painted over the last few months these rotund little fellows are keen to remove the “motive force” that you are so casually squandering just by being alive and put it to better use in powering the great works of the Omnissiah. I decided to emphasise the fact that he’s a pretty unhealthy individual to be around, and give a nod to the toxic and irradiated nature of the planet Mars in the 41st Millennium, by adding a sign to his base that reads “biohazard” (which I realise isn’t easy to make out in these pictures).
I’m planning to tackle a whole bunch of Orks next month (‘cos it’s Orktober right!) but I’ll be sure to find time to add at least one new recruit to the Omnissiah’s legions as well, and once again it’s looking likely to be a tech-priest, this time one who likes to hang out with a couple of big robotic pals…

Nicely done dude, that looks like a fiendishly difficult mini to paint! I don’t know if I’d have the patience for it 😂

I’ll admit there were a few moments when a temper tantrum was definitely on the cards! 😬 You’ve got to force yourself to embrace fiddly details to really enjoy it – and even then weathering covers up a multitude of sins… 😉

😂 true dat

Very nice Wudu. Lots of lovely details so I can see why it may have been a challenge. At first I thought he was picking his nose haha. Just quietly I’m knee deep in Orks at the moment 👍🏼

Cheers mate! Funnily enough I thought he was picking his nose too, and when my partner saw him she said “Is he snorting coke?”. Looking forward to seeing what you do with those orks, I’ve got a bunch of them on the desk too. 😀

Haha. The last time I snorted coke the bubbles made me sneeze

Excellent mate, a very fine job on what looks like a very fiddly figure to paint. 🙂

Thank you 😊

great work, I do like the skin where the cables enter, how you done it unhealthy!
September 25th, 2021 at 8:37 am
Thank you! I went for a pale, clammy looking skin tone (Ionrach Skin, Deepkin Flesh and then Cadian Flesh) and then used a bit purple wash around the cables to make it look bruised and unhealthy.

It has worked great!

This is a very unique GW sculpt isn’t it? I can’t think of too many sculpts that are as corpulent, rotund, big-boned, etc. as this guy. He also looks fairly undynamic like he just waffles around the battlefield lazily firing off shots with his fifth arm 😀 With all that said, I do like this sculpt and I love how you painted him. He looks a bit messy which quite frankly fits with his personal appearance 🙂 Always great to see more Ad Mech and I’m excited for the ladz in Oct too 😀

You’re right now I think about it, there’s not a lot of tumsters in GW’s catalogue, just Nurgle and the Ogres (oh and the halflings in Blood Bowl). Mind you, life in the Warhammer universes is hard, I can’t imagine a square meal is easy to come by!
I liked what they did with the fat Slaaneshi guy earlier this year too, I’ve often thought there must be plenty of followers of Slaanesh who’s love of decadence and overindulgence takes them to the pie shop just as much as to the sex, drugs and rock and roll.
As for this guy I thought he looked disreputable and slovenly. I suspect he sees everyone else as just tools to be exploited in service to his intellect so he wouldn’t care too much about how he looks, so I tried to play that up with the paint job.

Tumsters, haha! That made me laugh out loud. I think we may have to start a petition for more representation of those who are “less athletic” shall we say. Its time this injustice is corrected! I agree with sentiment on the Ad Mech guy looking disreputable and a bit lazy. He must be a clever git to have risen up the ranks there!

That is brilliant! 🙂 Now I have a mission to get a historical mini packing his nose (I did mean the mini was brilliant, not the fact that he might be picking his nose was brilliant – I’m digging myself a bigger hole here aren’t I?)!
September 27th, 2021 at 9:12 pm
Haha – not as big as the hole he’s digging in his nostril! Glad you like him – and if there is a historical miniature picking his nose out there somewhere I know I can rely on you to track it down and paint it. 😀

That has turned out really nicely.
Cheers,
Pete.

Great painting mate, it looks to complicated for someone as simple as I to attempt!!! I do have to say the blue on the ray gun thing er me bob certainly stands out!
September 29th, 2021 at 10:25 am
Cheers! Well, I thought he was too complicated for me to attempt too but here we are. Glad you like him! 🙂

Truly a technical challenge to paint- and looks so good

Thank you very much! Yeah, he was very fiddly right enough, glad you like how he turned out in the end. 🙂
