Skitarii Marshal

Did you think that those Electro Priests were going to be the only additions to the Adeptus Mechanicus this month? Well so did I! However Games Workshop recently released a new codex for the faction, and alongside it a new Skitarii Marshal miniature. These are the senior officers of the Skitarii, veterans charged with commanding the legions whilst the priests are busy thinking holy thoughts about the wonderful machines of old. With my first squad of Skitarii rangers now fully painted and more waiting for attention I decided to treat myself – and to break with tradition and paint him straight away rather than leaving him half done for months or years first!

It’s also almost the end of June (where does the time go?) which mean we must be due for a look at the progress I’ve made with this army since the start of the year. First of all here’s a look at everything I’d painted by the end of 2020.

Not very impressive is it, especially as two of those models are loaned from Blackstone Fortress. By now however things are looking a bit more imposing (click on the picture to see a bigger version).

Tremble hereteks! Naturally I’ve got a lot more planned for the second half of 2021 so let’s see how that legion looks in another 6 months.

Excellent job mate – I can tell you’re hitting your stride with these! That Marshal is a cracking little figure – is that a bare skull under the helm?

    • Wudugast

Thanks dude! It’s hard to say but it looks like a bare skull to me. On the studio model it’s just painted as a metal mask but I added a little hint that there might be bare bone under there, nothing too on the nose but hopefully enough to add to his sinister appearance.

Fantastic work- he has come out great.

Great looking figure and I love the two group shots. I’m sure I have said it before but the red colour scheme is simply terrific. 🙂

    • Wudugast

Thank you! I’m really enjoying painting lots of red again. For a while it was the colour I was most comfortable with and then I realised that I was painting everything in the same red uniform – regardless of who they were or what faction they belonged to. For a few years now I’ve steered away from it to push myself (and not become too repetitive) but it’s nice to break out the red paint again. 🙂

Mars is slowly filling up, mate! I don’t think I had seen that sculpt and I like it! I look forward to seeing more of this army as you get around to it. Take your time and enjoy the process 🙂

    • Wudugast

Cheers! Yeah, he’s the newest addition to the range – he just came out a couple of months ago. I completely agree – painting and modelling is my hobby, not gaming, so I rarely have the pressure of needing to get something done for a set deadline. I prefer to take my time and enjoy working on an army rather than rushing things, but on the other hand before this year I was taking so much time with this army I wasn’t actually making any progress at all… 😉

Looking good! My June has come and gone with a bunch of started stuff and nothing finished… The machine god must be proud!

    • Wudugast

Thank you! Yeah, this month has just flown by. Work is busy and the weather is nice – I love painting miniatures but it’s best saved for when it’s cold and wet! At this time of year I always find myself starting projects and not finishing them – in the winter I’ll have a good old catch up though. As for your own stuff don’t forget you just painted that Triumph of Saint Catherine – and an absolute work of art it is too! 🙂

      • Túbal Villar - Virakotxa

Thank you! Yes… Nice weather and indulging (appropriately?) On the “Triumph” are the culprits for me. But you chose your battle wisely and finished a small bunch of top quality minis! I’m looking at 26 partially based figs and more arms than a Genestealer…

They look great. Love the red colour coats as well. Great stuff

  • Argentbadger

That looks so good. Your painting, especially the coat, really makes this pop. I also quite like the rather restrained pose here, there are so many dynamic sculpts out there that this contrasts nicely.

    • Wudugast

Thank you! I know exactly what you mean about the pose – sometimes I think designers get carried away by the potential of what they can do. Nothing wrong with a dynamic pose in the right place but you can’t beat a ruthless commander calmly surveying the battlefield either.

Speak, damn you!
