Since the previews of Warhammer Quest: Cursed City began I’ve had an itch to paint some zombies. Spoiling my appetite for when the game arrives or honing my skills in advance – I’ll let you be the judge! Either way it’s been a while since I painted a shambling corpse (almost a year since I finished off my Poxwalker horde) and when I spotted these two lads I couldn’t resist. Both are Blood Bowl players without a team on my desk for them to join (at the moment) although sooner or later I’ll probably do something about that.
After the epic charge I made through the female miniatures in my collection for the Fembruary challenge it was nice to just paint something that positively demands a rough and ready, relaxed painting style. Really I should be getting back to the followers of Tzeentch that I abandoned in January but work is kicking off at the moment and time for painting is short so I won’t be pushing myself too hard over the next little while.

The zombies look great, I had had my eye on that new Necromantic team box too.

Thank you! They’re great looking models aren’t they, and a Blood Bowl team is very achievable in my book. I must admit a big part of what tempted me to them was also using spare heads to convert Cawdor gangers. π

Another great set mate! I’m getting used to your amazing work but you have a new follower who is simply stunned! not only with your painting but your ability with words and getting your point of view across without the hysterics that you and I are seeing now days! keep up the good work cobber !
March 10th, 2021 at 2:28 pm
Cheers mate! Glad to hear there’s people enjoying my work, I must be doing something right π As for my writing I’d say it’s a sad day for humanity if I’m one of the most sensible and erudite among usΒ π Hopefully this is just a phase that the human race is passing through and common sense will prevail in the end.

I do recon you are right and we will come out of it, I’m 66 and I have seen a lot of changes! I have seen folk pick up a cause with such enthusiasm and passion only to drop it some years later and take a completely opposite tack! Oh we humans! That’s why modelers will rule the world! One has to laugh my young friend at the silliness but keep our eyes open to the more dangerous movement sneaking in as you have mentioned before.
March 12th, 2021 at 8:19 am
Aye, I think it’s vital to keep laughing and keep a sense of perspective, but there are some very sinister people out there. Dark day for us here yesterday, the rights and prospects of a whole nation diminished because a few unpleasant individuals wanted to throw their weight around.
It could be wishful thinking but I don’t think it will last (I keep thinking of that phrase “this too shall pass”, but I do foresee a lot of harm being done over the next little while. A friend of mine is 96 and that was his advice, just keep pushing back and don’t take these people as seriously as they want you to.
Yup, modellers will always rule the world; we’re patient and think long term (some of those models have been waiting for paint for years…), we think about the details (painting the eyes on a 28mm figure) and the big picture (massive armies and dioramas), we’re more than happy to stay indoors with our brushes and wait out any passing drama (we invented social distancing) and in the event of a nuclear war we’ll be shielded behind the walls of lead we’ve accumulated! π
March 13th, 2021 at 8:49 am
We will rule the wold mate ! Your old mate is so right , I keep saying the same thing to my fired up daughter ( the other one is to busy with new love )the same thing , best thing about getting old is that you see a patent that keeps repeating over time And although I can feel your sadness Iβm certain that along with your old mate, yourself and the great modelling group , oh and I must include the silent sensible ones as well ! Mate we will

Great minis mate, zombie scarecrow, now you’re talking. With a pumpkin head an ideal October figure too when a suitable challenge comes around. π
March 10th, 2021 at 6:22 pm
Thank you! The whole team is basically Halloween come to life so if I don’t get inspired to paint the rest of them in the meantime when October comes around I’m sure to tackle them then. π
March 10th, 2021 at 3:20 pm
Lovely shamblers mate, they look fab! Zombies are my hobby junk-food too – I love painting them quick & easy π
March 10th, 2021 at 6:42 pm
Cheers mate – they’re very relaxing to paint somehow. There’s no pressure with a zombie. Plus you can never have too many of them! π
March 10th, 2021 at 11:20 pm
Those are great- can’t go wrong with a Zombie.
Cheers,
Pete.
March 11th, 2021 at 11:55 am
Thank you! π
March 11th, 2021 at 3:02 am
Superb group, love the pumpkin head.
March 11th, 2021 at 11:55 am
Cheers! I know right, it’s so silly but at the same time it’s so much fun! π
March 11th, 2021 at 6:06 pm
And – that’s the point! π
March 11th, 2021 at 8:03 am
These look great, and models are still flying off your desk!
March 12th, 2021 at 8:22 am
Thank you! I think it’s very easy for me to look at the backlog still waiting for paint and feel like I’m not getting anywhere near to working on all the things I want to. It’s another nice thing about having the blog actually, it helps me keep a sense of perspective when I look back and release how much I have painted lately, rather than getting too focussed on all the things I haven’t. π
March 11th, 2021 at 11:47 pm
These look cute! π
March 12th, 2021 at 8:21 am
They do don’t they! Not something you normally associate with zombies but there is something faintly adorable about them, especially the pumpkin head guy – he looks like he just wants a hug!
March 13th, 2021 at 12:39 am
Great work there.
March 13th, 2021 at 11:32 am
Cheers!

I somehow forgot about this Blood Bowl team. It is amazing to see all of my favorite old Warhammer factions in Blood Bowl π That is certainly something really appealing about that game. I’d have to agree that these sculpts fit your painting style well and I’ll be looking forward to seeing more when you get back around to painting them up!
March 13th, 2021 at 11:47 am
Cheers! Yup, I fully agree – much as I love Blood Bowl just for being Blood Bowl the fact that it gives me a lovely hit of WHFB nostalgia is a nice bonus. Plus I always think of it as being the Discworld of Warhammer if that makes sense, it’s the version of the universe where everything is a bit more silly and a bit less grim and dark (and we all need that from time to time).
As for getting the rest of the team painted I do feel that I ought to finish off the three teams which are currently WIP rather than starting another. That said there’s a big gap between what I ought to do and what I’m actually going to do – especially when it comes to this hobby… π
March 13th, 2021 at 8:55 pm
That’s well said, mate and a long time ago, I used to paint things a squad at a time and that’s for the birds. You HAVE to bounce around among a lot of “projects” or different kinds of sculpts to keep it interesting or that’s my feeling anyway! π
March 13th, 2021 at 2:01 pm
They look great – I love the pumpkin head
March 15th, 2021 at 6:12 pm
Thank you! It’s just so silly and quirky isn’t it. π
March 20th, 2021 at 2:16 am
This pair looks amazing. Love the earthy tones on both and the discolouration on the zombie!
March 23rd, 2021 at 3:17 pm
Cheers! You can’t go wrong with a dirty zombie! π
March 26th, 2021 at 11:38 pm
Nice start on a Necro team there! Not my fave Blood Bowl team, but the minis are awesome and look fun to paint. I especially like what you did with the Zombie. Looks like a shark bit off a chunk from his torso. Gruesome!
March 30th, 2021 at 7:08 pm
Cheers mate! I’ve no idea what they’re like to play but the models are just too much fun not to paint. π
