One of my favourite female characters from Black Library fiction (and in fact, one of my favourite characters from Black Library fiction full stop) is Commissar Severina Raine. I bought the miniature of her at the same time as the novel Honourbound in which she stars but whereas I devoured the book in about 24 hours, the model took a little while to arrive. By the time it did I was busy with other things so although I started painting her there was never quite enough enthusiasm there to get her finished. Much like Yolanda Skorn who I showed last week I planned to get her painted in Fembruary 2020 but although I made a lot of progress she never quite made it to the finish line, and then ended up shoved to the back of the desk. However when I picked her out of the box of part-painted models in which she’d been residing for the last few months I realised she only needed another half-hour or so to see her completed. Thus inspired I decided there was no way I was going to let Fembruary 2021 pass without getting her painted at last.
The model is absolutely packed with cool little details lifted from the book, right down to the heirloom watch hanging from her belt. It’s been a couple of years since Honourbound and its accompanying short stories were released – it’s past time we got a sequel to continue the story of Raine and the Eleventh Antari Rifles.

She’s on my Fembruary list too!

She’s cool isn’t she – looking forward to seeing what you do with her. 🙂

great looking model. Love the red, it came out well.

I can certainly see the appeal with this figure, very nice. The red works a treat and really makes her stand out. 🙂

She’s a nice one isn’t she? I knew I had to get the red right for her to work overall, I’m pleased it paid off. 🙂

Thank you! I thought it popped nicely against the dark blue-grey of her uniform.

Honourbound was a great book🙂. Love the painting you did here mate.

It was fantastic, really, really deserving of a sequel in my opinion. Have you read any of the prequel short-stories? Highly recommend them too if you get the chance. I want to read her other novel, Mark of Faith, it’s been sitting near the top of my “to read” pile for ages but I’ve not quite got around it yet. Glad you like my versions of Severina. 🙂

I have mark of faith on my netgalley list still. Just did a review for another book on that 25 book pile, will be up in a few minutes. Have not read any Severina shorts though. Hope i might run into some in some of the anthologies i still have.

Epic figure- very nicely posed too.
Cheers,
Pete.

Cheers – the way she’s posed is just awesome isn’t it. 🙂

Agree with above comments, plus I do like the way you painted her.

Thank you 🙂

Severina looks great and she is one of the better Imperial Guard sculpts GW has done in a while. I like the bold reds you used on her as well. Fembruary still seems to be keeping you motivated and really productive. I’m thinking we might need to have a “March of Elves” to not only celebrate all the great Elven sculpts out there but ensure you stay productive next month too 😉

Ooh, March of the Elves – I like it! You know me, when it comes to painting challenges I’ll turn up for the opening of an envelope! I am finding Fembruary to be really motivating this year, and it’s nice to find myself making a serious dent in the backlog for once. 🙂

Model is great overall, but that red pops especially wonderfully!

Thank you! 🙂

She’s an absolute belter mate – very nicely done

Cheers dude! 🙂

She’s a fantastic sculpt. I have her but have yet to do anything with her. Love the red and basing is spot on too.

She’s a good ‘un isn’t she? Looking forward to see what you do when you get around to her. 🙂

That’s a nice one, sweet looking colors. It’s always a great feeling when you pick up a partially painted mini, and realize ‘Hey, this actually won’t take long to dust off!’.
Why on earth it takes so long for that light bulb to finally click sometimes is a little mind warping, but hey take advantage when we can!

Yeah, it’s funny how some models end up sitting around for months or years until I suddenly realise how little effort it would take to get them done. On the other hand you can’t beat an easy win so finding them is always a joy! 🙂 In a lot of cases it’s because work or life is particularly busy and I find myself wanting to paint but not able to concentrate on the one project for long enough to get it done. Next time I sit down at the desk I’ve forgotten what I was working on and pick up something else instead and the original model gets shoved further and further back into the unfinished morass…
February 17th, 2021 at 11:32 pm
I try to keep most of my models front and center, though I do have some that I put in a drawer as ‘next targets’. And you can guess which ones I keep forgetting about over and over!

Wise man – I try to do the same but inevitably I seem to end up with secondary and tertiary piles, and things get shoved to the back and buried. It’s probably not the best way to organise myself, and I do try to sort it out every once in a while (only to slip back into my old bad habits!) but it does mean that sometimes I find lost gems which is always a nice surprise! 🙂

Indeed, and I imagine your collection makes mine look like just one tiny star in the sky!!
