Well, I spent a lot longer talking about painting them than I did actually painting them, which goes to show these projects are a lot more achievable if you just crack on with them. Yes, that’s right, my Blood Bowl Orc team are ready to take to the pitch at last (minus their troll who’ll come later – possibly much later…).
There’s quite a lot of stuff to cover in this post, covering as it does all the odds and ends needed to complete the team. First of all we’ve got the final two orc players.
Add them to the ones I’ve already painted and we’ve got six linemen ready to do whatever it is they do (anyone coming here for in-depth tactical advice must be feeling sorely disappointed right now eh!).
Now one thing I do know is that if you want to play Blood Bowl you need some balls. Who wants to see an Orc’s balls? You do? Ok then!
Then we have some re-roll tokens. I tried to make these look like artefacts which belonged in the setting partly because this made them easier to paint and partly because I thought it would look cool. As well as the two for the Orc team I painted the pair for the Human team at the same time.
We also have these which I believe are turn markers. They proved to be tricky to photograph, mostly because they keep falling over, so I’m wondering about sticking them on bases for a bit of extra stability. Is this a normal solution or does it have any game play implications? As usual, if there are any more experienced Blood Bowl fans reading this who want to share their thoughts I’m all ears. If there’s no major reason not to they’re going on bases ASAP, all this falling over every time I look at them is bloody annoying, and only likely to be more so mid-game.
Lastly, what we’ve all been waiting for, the whole team ready to give any opposing players a kicking.
Of course for that to happen I’ll need to find some opposing players for them to kick, and the easiest way will probably be to paint my own. I’ve been working away on kitbashing my human team and I quite like the look of most/all of the other teams as well. Life is looking quite busy over the next few weeks however so it might not be for a little while yet. Oh and at some point I need to roll up my sleeves and paint that damn troll…

Hi there !
I have seen the new GW turn markers based on 25mm bases most of the time for stability. Or you can use one token as a RR marker and the other one as a turn marker.

Thank you – that’s useful to know. I just tried blutacking one to a base to see how it looks, I reckon it looks a lot better already! 🙂

Lovely stuff mate – everyone should have at least one fully painted BB team 😊

Cheers mate, couldn’t agree more – I’ve been painting miniatures for the best part of 20 years and at last I feel like a proper hobbyist!

These look great, its nice to see the team together and ready for a game.

Cheers – nothing beats a finished project right? 🙂

I agree, having two painted teams is probably the easiest way to get other people interested in the game, plus hopefully it’ll be fun for you to paint up the second army. The orks are looking good and I agree both about putting the markers on bases and that the scheme you chose works with how you painted the orks.

Thank you! Yeah, most of my mates aren’t into this hobby, and those that are don’t do much in the way of painting or collecting miniatures themselves these days (which is a shame because a couple of them are damn good painters). If I have a bunch of stuff painted up and ready to go I can usually find someone who’s up for a game though (or I could when we were allowed to go to each others’ houses of course – not so much these days). Of course, that’s mostly just an excuse for me to paint things, which is 99% of what I want to do with miniatures anyway.

Looking good. I love their balls 😂

Cheers! I sense a Team America quote coming on! 😀

Suprise, cock-face!

Team looks great! I’ve seen people put the turn markers on 25mm bases, or just lay them flat on the board. No right or wrong answer there.
The lineorcs are awesome. Sadly, most orc players don’t find much use for them in their teams. A standard orc team often looks like
4x blitzers
4x black orcs or big ‘uns or whatever they’re called in the new addition
1x troll
1x thrower
1x goblin
For all things Blood Bowl tactics, I like to visit bbtactics.com. None of the articles are updated to the new edition yet, but there is lots of good content and advice on there.

Thank you – and thanks for the advice. The deed is done – I’ve glued the markers to 25mm bases. I reckon a bit of decoration and they’ll look good.
Aye, I’d heard that having lots of line-orcs isn’t very sensible tactically speaking, but to begin with I just wanted to paint up the team I got in the previous boxset. In time I think I’ll try to pick up/convert some more to make the team a bit stronger. Cheers for the link, just took a look at BBtactics, they’ve got some really useful looking articles.

Those are great- turned out lovely. I like that you have done the extra work to make the tokens look the part too.
Cheers,
Pete.

Thank you – I always reckon a little extra effort on these details to make the whole thing feel immersive is time well spent. 🙂

Great job on these Greenskinz and its always nice to see someone achieving a painting/hobby goal as well. I’ll be looking forward to seeing what the human team looks like as well. Will you be getting crazy and making any stands or benches to fill out the stadium a bit further? I reckon that would play up to your hobby skills, if so! 🙂
December 4th, 2020 at 7:48 am
Oh that would be awesome! I’ve seen the odd board like that and it always looks amazing, anyone that puts in that amount of time and effort into creating things like that are hobby heroes to me (do a search for “Sughammer blood bowl stadium” for instance, one of my go-to pieces to get me inspired about Blood Bowl). I think I’ll be sticking to teams for now though but someday..! 😀
December 5th, 2020 at 12:36 am
One of the MDF makers is coming out with a stadium or at least stands if I remember right so I’m sure that gave me the idea. I don’t blame you for not wanting to take that on anytime soon. It looks absolutely amazing but I think it’d be best for several people to take it on, especially if you fill the stands with many miniatures as spectators. That is where it really would take a ton of time! You did get me thinking about painting something Blood Bowl and maybe even making a little diorama so who knows, maybe I’ll paint something up for it one day 🙂
December 2nd, 2020 at 7:05 am
Well you have been busy and the team looks great. Onwards and upwards and now that you are fully motivated I expect an army most weeks from here on in. No pressure! 😉
December 4th, 2020 at 7:56 am
An army most weeks you say? *cracks knuckles and rolls up sleeves* ok, I guess you’re about to be terribly disappointed then! Sadly the way this month is looking, if I get to pick up a brush before Christmas it’ll be a miracle. Still, as it’s yourself that’s asking I’ll see what I can do. 😉 Glad you like the boyz!

Top notch work!

Man, I’m surprised how quickly you blew through these! Just amazing and a nice looking team. You will want to add 2 Blitzers and 2 more Black Orcs/Big Uns at some point, and then you will be all set. Well, the Troll too. But I’d rather go 4 BOBs over the Troll to start.
Tokens, yep check my site. I’ve based all of them. Otherwise when you’re moving them along the game track, they will just tip over. I think the first game I played, with partially painted stuff, I had to use blue tac to keep them from tipping all the time. Bases is where it’s at, and allows you to decorate them just a tad more too.
The reroll tokens look nice and it’s kind neat that they would be interchangeable in those colors.
I also just noticed that you chose the Savage Orc head with a tassel for the Blitzer head. Even though he doesn’t have a helm, he still ties in with the other Blitzer because of the tassel. Nice one!

Aye, it goes to show that if I just get on with these things instead of just yacking about them it really doesn’t take much time to end up with something to be proud of. Of course that’s easy to say, and not always so easy to do.
Cheers for the tactical tips, I’ll have a look on ebay and see if I can drum up a few more of those positionals that I can convert. I don’t mind if this isn’t the most tactically top-notch team though, just that it’s fun to play with.
Of course, I should have looked back through your archive to see what you’ve been doing with your tokens (in fact I see you’ve just posted some, I’ll take a proper look shortly). Have just stuck mine on bases exactly as you’re suggesting and started giving them a bit of extra decoration, they’re looking better (and more functional!) already.
Glad you like what I did with the Blitzer, that was exactly what I was hoping to pull off when I chose that head. 🙂

Glad to help out on the markers. I did a fair bit of deliberation on those myself initially. I think after seeing a lot of people post some really good markers as I worked forever on the Dwarves, that I was able to finally make the decision to base them. I’m sure you will have some cool ones to show off yourself!
I don’t know if people would argue with me about the Orcs, but I think I’d at least get 4 BOBs over the 4 Blitzers. Maybe because I starkly remember facing those 4 big brutes in my first game. They are iconic to me. The Blitzers are awesome players though. With the rerelease of the Orc box and people wanting the new shiny Black Orc team, I imagine you might have better Ebay luck than a couple years ago for sure.
