Ghost Stories – Part 4

With the ghouls of the flesh eater courts ready to take to the battlefield it’s time to finish painting their Nighthaunt adversaries. Again only one model was required, in this case a Myrmourn Banshee.

I really like these models, although it took me a little while to find a way to make my chosen colour scheme work as well on her as I wanted it too. Now that I’m happy with it I quite fancy turning my attention to the rest of her sisters.

Technically that’s the warband completed, in fact I’ve already painted more Chainrasps than I need, but I’ve been enjoying working on the ghosts so whilst I was about it I finished up two more.

Of course this means I have far more Chainrasps than I need for the warband but there’s no harm in that, indeed I’m well on my way to completing my first squad of them. Here’s the warband that will be facing the ghouls at some point in the next few days (as usual don’t give yourself eye-strain, click on the pictures for a closer look).

And here’s the entire Nighthaunt collection so far.

Next I want to try and clear a few part-painted miniatures off the desk – starting with something that’s a bit orc-y, but also a bit unusual for me. I’ll leave you guessing, but hopefully not for very long…

I ain’t afraid of no ghost … but these a frighteningly good. Hahaha that’s such a bad attempt at a pun. Sorry ‘bout that, mate.

    Amazing set of models.

Cracking job mate – how are you doing that lovely dark green??

  • Mikko

Those look really cool! Some of the nicest stuff GW has ever put out in my opinion, and you’ve painted them wonderfully.

  • Argentbadger

Great stuff. I wasn’t really aware of these Banshees but that’s a lovely sculpt and your painting works very well on it. I always like to see an ‘end of project’ photo too. Good luck pitting this lot against the Ghouls.

Lovely work again and, as I said previously I think, I love that colour scheme. Nice group shot too.

    • Wudugast

Thank you! Yeah, I’m enjoying this colour scheme myself (which is good because I’ve got quite a few more ghosts kicking around that I ought to paint up). It’s nice and easy to paint and the results look good which is the best you can hope for in my book!

Very nice- love the dark green you used.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

Such a great paint job mate, really great

  • Kuribo

These looked great before but the latest addition makes them look even cooler! There is a nice balance between cloth and ethereal bits at the moment that really makes the colors pop. I’ll be looking forward to the other Nighthaunt when you get around to paint them!

Thank you! I don’t know what it is about her but somehow adding the Banshee really brings something extra to the group, makes them more than the sum of their parts. Perhaps it’s just that, for my money, they really outdid themselves with those models – the Banshees are the creative pinnacle of the Nighthaunt range.

I’ve dug out all the other ghosts I have currently assembled and working on these has me really excited about them so fingers crossed I’ll get them finished sooner rather than later. 🙂

This won’t surprise you because I’ve thought about painting every Warhammer and Warhammer 40k model known to man, but I was so impressed by the Banshees when they came out that I did give some thought to painting them. I just felt like they were the best sculpts in the Nighthaunt range (though Lady Olynder is very impressive too but a lot of work to tackle). I’ll be looking forward to seeing more when you get around to them 🙂

      • Wudugast

Oh I know that feeling all too well! At least you only want to paint every model, I find myself planning whole armies based around hordes of the things. Mostly I reign myself in before money is spent… mostly…

Oddly, I have the dubious distinction of being the only person on earth who doesn’t really like Lady Olynder. Technically brilliant of course but apart from that there’s nothing about her that really grabs me. That said I’ve been fighting a temptation recently to turn her into a tech-priest so who knows, she might find her way into the collection after all.

Spending the money is the moment where the rubber hits the road as we say in the US. It is your last best chance to back out before making a big commitment! 😀

She is a great looking model but kind of restrictive like a lot of the Nighthaunt models color wise. I like her better than some of the other big character models GW has done for AoS but she’s not without her flaws. That conversion does sound really interesting and I will look forward to it when you get around to it!

I can’t say anything more than F “….. brilliant ! oh yeah I can, just love your use of the greens! makes me green with envy! Ha HA !!! I cant believe that just when I feel you have done something amazing you go and trump it!!

  • Azazel

Man, I really like your Nighthaunt. Really beautiful use of colour on these. Love both the blues and the green tones.

Speak, damn you!
