Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun – Part 4

One more ghoul to round out the warband – for now – and this time it’s the turn of the leader, a fearsome Crypt Infernal. In order to make him stand out a little I used an alternative head from the same kit, which I think means he’s technically a Vargheist – not that I think anyone is going to worry over a technicality like that!

Time to lead his thralls in search of prey!

With him done that’s another Warcry warband completed and ready to unleash. Next up – more ghosts!

Nicely done dude, ghoulishly good warband!

I like the pose of this last one quite a bit! It really draws your eyes towards the wings which you painted nicely. GW really sculpted those things well as they look easy to add texture to. This is a fantastic looking warband and should inspire fear in any opposition too 🙂

Thank you! Yeah, I thought having the wings like that really helped to emphasise him as the leader. The GW studio models feel like they have their wings all over the place, which I’m not so keen on, but with just one of them posed like that it really makes him to stand out. The sculptors did a lovely job on the wings too – that’s just drybrushing, nothing fancy, but the texture did all the work and I reckon its come out really well.

He does look very dangerous and fast with the way you have the wings done! That is really impressive that you just drybrushed the wings too! If I had infinite amounts of time, I’m sure I’d enjoy painting up a dragon and ghoul riding it but I know a huge project like that takes more energy and commitment than I have currently. Maybe one day 🙂

That fig looks great. Really nice job on the wings, as they have come out well.

Thank you! I’m really pleased with the look of the wings myself (they really are the stand-out element of the model so I needed to get them right). I can’t claim all the credit though, it was really just a case of drybrushing over the sculpted texture. 🙂

The leader looks great and really ties off the full group well done sir!

  • Pete S/ SP

    That is very impressive.

Wow he’s quite a size compared to the other making him all the more impressive within the gang. Live the group shot. A fearsome bunch if ever I saw one. 🙂

Thank you! He’s a big lad isn’t he? It’s all in the pose, mass for mass he’s the same as the other two but he’s up on his tiptoes and waving his wings about – it really makes him tower over the rest. I’d like to say I planned it that way but to be honest it was unconscious, I was about half way through before I noticed I’d done it.

Stunning ! one has to just love the work you have put into those wings !!! A truly marvellous crew mate!!

    • Wudugast

Thank you! I’ve got to be honest, 90% of the work on the wings is just drybrushing. I used browns to give it some warmth and make it feel alive and greys to add highlights and let the sculpted texture do as much of the work as possible. 🙂

That looks awesome, and the group/warband shot at the end just makes it all so much better. You keep making me want to shove other stuff aside to start on some War Cry stuff…

    • Wudugast

Thank you! Well, far be it from me to try to lead you astray but I do find part of the appeal of Warcry is encouraging me to get things painted. A warband is usually pretty achievable and can generally be knocked together out of things I was going to paint anyway *someday*, these ghouls for instance were all models I’d previously purchased and intended to paint, but which might not have seen any attention for ages if I’d not decided to make a warband out of them (likewise the ghosts). You’ve already got plenty of terrain so maybe just pick a faction and work out a list combining models you’ve already finished with some you’d like to. Rather than having it be a distraction from models you’re *meant* to be tackling, see it as a way of giving yourself a boost to get some things finished?

Speak, damn you!
