As promised the explorers risking life and limb in the darkness of the Blackstone Fortress can now be joined by the servitor X-101. Of course I won’t let the occasion pass to complain that GW really ought to provide us with some more servitor models, there are few things as evocative of the 41st Millennium and the few existing miniatures for them are hellishly old. Every Imperial faction could use a few servitors and gangs of corrupted, malfunction servitors would be a wonderful addition to Necromunda.
All in all he was remarkably quick and straightforward to paint and so I’m feeling enthused about tackling some more Blackstone Fortress models, perhaps finishing off the last few heroes from the original game or turning my attention to some of the expansions.

Great painting. I really enjoyed painting this model myself, and yours has come out great!

Cheers – it’s a really nice model isn’t it 🙂

That looks great. I suspect these won’t be available to buy separately from the boxed game… time to start scouring eBay.

Thank you! Sadly I suspect you’re right, they released the cultists from that set separately but not the heroes. Come on GW, let’s have a multipart boxset that makes servitors, another for Imperial civilians and one for Chaos cultists. I’ll buy a dozen of each and populate an entire Necromundan hive city!

Very good- ther sort of servitor that looks pretty handy to have on your team.
Cheers,
Pete.

Cheers! Yeah I reckon in a fight he’d be a handy kind of bloke to have at your back. He’s also good for heavy lifting and doesn’t complain much 😉

Very nicely done as always. The red is the key to me. It is eye catching and really breaks the figure stand out.

Thank you! Yeah, the red was the last thing I painted and up until that point he really wasn’t looking anything special. I actually thought he was going to need a lot more work to get him finished but as soon as the red was added he just popped.

I couldn’t agree more on the servitors having some rough, old models. It was nice to see GW design something new and far better for Blackstone Fortress. I like the drab colors this guy has. It seems appropriate for someone stuck doing a lot of the grunt work for the Emperor 🙂

Thank you! That’s very much the look I was after, dirty and workmanlike – nobody decorates a servitor! 😉

Nice. Servitors evoke the old Blanche artwork that probably got me excited about 40K way back in the mists of the past. This one looks excellent, good work on the painting. I really like the contrast between the flesh and metal sections.

Cheers! Yup, I’m exactly the same, I remember pouring over the artwork looking at all those crazy, dirty, misshapen characters and thinking how utterly different this was to the clean and hopeful sci-fi that I was used to (although I think we could use a bit more hopeful, aspirational sci-fi nowadays). Servitors were key to that, and I think we have seen a shift back in that direction with the miniatures releases over recent years so I keep hoping that the Blackstone Fortress servitor was just a taster and we’ll see a few more. They seem to have been lumped into the space marine range (whereas to me every Imperial faction should have access to them) and every wave of space marine releases is so massive I can see why GW don’t want to bulk them out even further when they want to be concentrating on making money off the power-armoured poster boys. The Ad-Mech can take them now as well at least so maybe they’ll be released alongside more kits for them (still got my fingers crossed for plastic kits for tech-thralls, thallax and ursarax someday too!) and I guess we might be lucky and get some “special character” servitors whenever Grimaldus gets around to crossing the Rubicon Primaris. 🙂

I gotta say that this dude (robot/cyborg/thingy?) is well done. Kudos!
