Cursed In Eternity – Part 6

It’s been ages since I last painted a chaos marine (in fact, looking back at the archives proves it to be almost exactly a year) – high time I cracked on and painted another one. This time it’s the turn of a chap so enthusiastic about burning his enemies with his flamer he’s been warped by Tzeentchian flame himself. These are the perils of life within the Eye of Terror!

I’ve got a couple more sitting on the painting desk and finishing them would round out a squad of ten, hopefully it won’t be another year before I get around to them!

Nice one mate. He looks the business

Very nice- quite restrained for chaos but works because of it.

Cheers πŸ™‚ For me, when I make a chaos model, I try to start off with something as restrained as possible, basically just an ordinary loyalist marine (perhaps in slightly spikier armour as in this case) and then work up, adding mutations and chaotic elements until he looks right. That way I’ve still got somewhere to go if I want to make something really crazy and mutated!

  • stevebArt

wow not painted one of these for yonks, looks good mate..

    • Wudugast

Cheers! I know, it’s been absolutely donkeys since I painted one, funny to think that when I started out with this blog I thought it would be almost exclusively about chaos marines.

I like the color combinations a lot on this traitorous marine. They subtly match each other very well which is always what you want with an army. I wouldn’t mind seeing some of your chaos marine squads when you have some to show off! πŸ™‚

      Thank you! Well, if you’re curious you can find the rest of this guy’s squad so far here;
These are all the ones made using the new models, there are pictures of the old models further back in the archive (lots of them actually) but I’m going to keep quiet about them (suffice to say that both GW’s model making and my painting skills have moved on a little since then but if you want a quiet chuckle at my expense/to wonder at how far I’ve come then take a nosey here and scroll down until you can’t face it anymore! ). I’ve got a couple more of the new ones on the desk so hopefully I’ll at least get this squad finished soon.

Thanks for sharing those links! The more recent ones look fantastic and the old ones don’t look bad, just a bit muddy/dark for lack of a better way to put it. There are a lot of people painting ultra grimdark these days and I think your older minis fit in that style that style but look a bit better than most in my opinion.

While scrolling, I saw tons of awesome conversions. I ought to look through there for inspiration and see if I can’t get an idea for a project of my own. I’ve been wanting to do some kind of Chaos Space Marine or even fantasy Chaos mini that is painted to a high level. I’m sure I’ll get to it as soon as I get those Ogres painted I’ve been wanting to do too… If only there was more time in the day! πŸ™‚

      • Wudugast

Well thank you again πŸ™‚ I really like that grubby, John Blanche style of painting miniatures, but it’s easy to get wrong – I’ve seen some real works of art in that style, and just as many things that would be better forgotten. Certainly it influenced me a lot in the past, although I’d say that nowadays I have my own style.

Yes, you should definitely do something Chaos – your style would really suit it (and of course after painting that Dark Angel you need to make amends by painting one of the good guys πŸ˜‰ ).

      • Kuribo

Yeah, the Blanche style is one where it looks easy but is hard to excel at I think it is fair to say. And haha, you’re right that the Chaos Gods have certainly been calling for me much louder after they thought I had fallen into the Emperor’s grasp πŸ˜€ I will definitely do some thinking on a cool Chaos themed mini I can paint πŸ™‚

  • theimperfectmodeller

Very nicely done as always but I can’t remember the others you done. Then again I couldn’t tell you what I had for dinner yesterday so that is hardly surprising!

  • Azazel

That’s a cute use of the flame effects coming out of his helm/head to form an echo of the rune of Tzeentch. πŸ™‚

    • Wudugast

It’s cool isn’t it? It’s from the old Forsaken kit – which for my money had the best range of cool bits and the some of the worst completed models that GW has ever produced.

      • Azazel

Yeah, I remember those. They also packaged them with Catachan sprues/boxes at one point as an officially-unofficial kitbash kit. I don’t believce I ever got any of those. I may be wrong and there might be a single sprue or two somewhere, lost and damned and forgotten – but then again maybe not!

Speak, damn you!
