Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun – Part 2

Once again I find myself crawling around graveyards in the dead of night looking for prey… Or, to put it differently, I decided to sink my teeth into something else for my Flesh-Eater Courts Warcry warband. This time I went for the crypt horror, which not only gives the cannibalistic little monsters some much needed muscle but was also relatively quick and easy to paint, whilst still feeling like a bit of a victory given its size.

With the big lad in tow the warband is starting to come together nicely.

I quite enjoyed painting a bigger ghoul so I’ll probably add at least one more to the warband, maybe one of the winged crypt flayers and perhaps even a crypt infernal as a leader (there’s something of a theme to these names isn’t there?). It won’t be straight away but watch this space!

That is pretty cool- certainly looks monstorous enough.

Very nicely done but it was only when I saw the group shot that I realised he was a big bugger. I love the way you get horrible figures to look horrible. All to often the menacing look is lost by peole whose painting is good but not quite up to the mark and the atmosphere of the piece is lost.
That certainly isn’t the cas here. 😊

Thank you! I know what you mean, a lot of official paintjobs stumble in the same way I think (GW are particularly prone to this). I understand that they don’t want to overemphasise the physical horror aspects of a model like this so as not to put off customers (or more specifically the mums’ of younger customers!) so even though their painting is technically proficient the effort is being directed at playing down some of the horrible elements rather than just letting loose with the gory effects. I, on the other hand, have no such restrictions to worry about and so can glory in the gore to my heart’s content! 😀

Corrrr great work here mate. I really like these models and had fun when I painted them a while back. They’re everything you want in a nightmarish ghoulish fiend

That is a motley crew there! I really like the most recent sculpt you painted (the name is escaping me and I’m too lazy to look it up!) and I think it is one of my favorites in the Flesh Eaters Court line. I think your Warcry squad should inspire fear in anyone you decide to game with too 🙂

    • Wudugast

Cheers! I like the idea of them as a mix of various horrible-looking characters, and the ranges of sizes and ghoulish figures should add to that nicely. 🙂 I’m thinking about putting together a warband of ghosts as well and playing a game or two against my partner at Halloween – it’s a few months away so it gives me plenty of time to actually get on and do it.

      • Kuribo

That would be fun to work on as well. The Nighthaunt sculpts are some of the better ones in AoS in recent memory for my money so I’d love to see what you do with them 🙂

      • Wudugast

I nabbed a few when the AoS second edition boxset came out, they were cheap as chips for a while and I fancied painting them, just never got around to it so this is the perfect excuse. They are really nice models in my view, the way the versatility and lightness of plastic has been used to make them appear hollow and to float is really outstanding.

      • Kuribo

Getting something you want for cheap is always a good thing to be sure. I agree on the versatility and convincing ability to float. There have been some misses when GW has tried that but not many I can think of with Nighthaunt 🙂

Brilliant mate ,so well done again and I do so love his little band !

  • backtothehammer

Love the group but now I have the song stuck in my head (*waves angry fist* 😉)

    • Wudugast

Glad you like them and apologies for the ear-worm – maybe I should have gone for something else. How about Uptown Ghoul? Brown Eyed Ghoul? Material Ghoul? Fat Bottomed Ghouls? Just A Ghoul? Galway Ghoul? Fell In Love With A Ghoul (that one would be by the Wight Stripes…). Actually now I’m thinking I need to paint more ghouls just so I can use some of these titles…

  • Azazel

It looks really great-gross! And you’re a cruel bastard with all those Ghoul-Song-Puns!

  • Mark A. Morin

Effectively painted group. Agree with TIM’s assessment!
