Of course, angry dwarves and hulking ogres are all very well but somebody still has to do all the legwork, and that means if my Iron Golem warband are going to carve out a reputation in the brutal hinterlands of the Bloodwind Spoil I’ll need a few Iron Legionaries to fill out the ranks.
I love the look of the big, heavy shields carried by the Legionaries, they look grim, brutal and unyielding. Imagine lugging that around all day!
For the third one however I decided to throw in a bola, as opposed to the other option on the kit – a second hammer, to give the group a bit of range and visual dynamism.
Grouped together I think they look even more uncompromising and forbidding – but then, as I’m sure I’ve mentioned on many occasions, I’m a sucker for a phalanx! Come home with your shield or on it…
With these done I just have three more Iron Golem to tackle, whilst the Untamed Beasts are likewise close to completion, so I’ll be aiming to keep my focus on Warcry for the next few weeks and get everything wrapped up.

They do look an intimidating bunch I must say and as always wonderfully done. In my youth I might have taken them on but alas age has caught up with me, well that’s my excuse and I am stickihg to it! š

A lucky escape for them then! š

Thank you! I really like the Warcry rank and file, every one of them is a character in their own right and because there’s not a lot of them you can really pour a lot of time and energy into each one.

Nice metal work once again! I really like the bola weapon, something you don’t see too often in GW minis. It adds a lot of movement to the mini as well. Looks like some great pieces!

Cheers! Yeah, they don’t do a lot of bolas now you mention it. It wasn’t the easiest thing to paint because it kept springing around whilst I was working on it, but I reckon it came out alright. It makes that model look a bit more active and dynamic, without taking away from the slow and solid feel of the group overall.

Ah, it looked pretty solid to me…didn’t know it was one of those springy bits. Sometimes that’s an advantage because you can bend it while painting other parts of the mini, but a disadvantage as well.

Brilliant work again ! Especially on the mail there mate ,and as always perfect metal painting strange how it almost makes them look realš±

Thank you! Well that’s always the ultimate holy grail isn’t it, to make them look as real as possible. I know I don’t come close to the standards of some painters but I’m happy with the results š

Love ’em mate, the metal work is just lovely!

Thank you! Doing the verdigris on the chainmail skirts was a lot of fun (and as you know by now I can happily paint tarnished metal all day!) š

Lovely work. They really do have the feel of a collection of Gladiators the way you’ve painted them up, and I love the metal effects you’vce achieved across this line.

Thank you! They’re basically just metal and flesh so it was a fine chance to really play around with the metal effects.
