Green Iz Best – Part 7

For a long time I’ve harboured an ambition to own a hoard of one hundred unique ork boyz. The last time I mentioned it here a few months ago it struck me that with seventy-five already painted at that point it would be fairly straightforward to get the remaining at twenty-five finished by the end of the year.

Ever-productive blogger Azazel even went so far as to declare that if I can get twenty-five orks painted over the coming month then so shall he. Of course, given the rate at which he paints that shouldn’t take him more than an hour (I jest – but seriously, he’s a painting machine and produces distressingly high quality results to boot! If you don’t already follow his blog then do yourself a favour and head over there now).

With that in mind here’s another five warlike greenskinned lads, cutting the number still to paint down to an increasingly manageable twenty.

With the year end deadline still comfortably distant I’m not in a huge rush with this project but it would be nice to get it done at last so expect to see me continuing to chip away over the coming months.

Live the figurines, man and great job on the colourschemes👍🏻

Sterling work, they look really good! Having once mostly painted a WHFB greenskin army, I don’t think I’ve been able to paint a green orc in 15+ years.

    • Wudugast

Oof! Yeah, I used to dream of painting a huge WGFB Orcs and Goblins army but the sheer idea of painting all those greenskins was just too much for me. Of course I didn’t learn and started a Skaven army, and a (smallish) Night Goblins army (and even that’s a lot of bodies!). Maybe that’s the real reason I’m drawn towards skirmish games nowadays! 😀

100 different orks is a nice target, but they look good even if you don’t get there!

    • Wudugast

Cheers! Yeah, they look really good all mobbed up, even the older models (which look a little rough) still look good as part of the horde. Of course, now I’ve reached 80 I can’t go stopping now!

Nicely done mate – keep on trucking, sooo close now!!

  • theimperfectmodeller

Simply awesome mate. This will be one impressive army and my money is on you completing all 100 by the end of the year, easy! Good to see you back to regular posting, I’m guessing work has either settled down or you’ve decided you have had enough!

    • Wudugast

Cheers! Twenty to go by the end of the year so that’s four per month (or possibly twenty in December). Either way now I’ve been challenged by Azazel himself I can’t back down 😀

As for work, it’s the former – although if it had carried on like it was in May and June it would have been the latter!

  • Warbringer

Love the orks! well done Green is best its my favourite colour!

  • Alexis West

Looking good! I particularly like the head on the second one. Keep on truckin’!

    • Wudugast

Cheers! Yeah, think either the first or the second are my favourites. Quite surprised that I’ve not used the fourth one before but if he’s in the collection somewhere I’ve not spotted it.

      • Alexis West

Agreed on both points. The first one is also really cool (something about the Orkiness of just tying a couple of extra tusks to his face pushes the second just over the top for me), and the fourth was the best head from the first modern Ork Boyz set in 3rd ed, so it seems like it would have been used early on.

  • Azazel

And just like that, you’ve pulled away from me!
Great looking set of boyz here, and you’ve done the subtle conversion thing on each one, too! More than I’ll be doing for a lot of mine, though once they’re seen that should be a little more understandable…

    • Wudugast

I have no doubt at all that you’ll catch up, I just needed a head start 😉

Looking forward to seeing what you’re planning for yours, the implication of mystery in that last sentence has me agog!

  • imperialrebelork

Niiiiiiiiice. I like the skull mask. Going into painting output Como without a Azazel would be like having a running race with Usain Bolt.

    • Wudugast

Cheers man! Well, it’s not a race as such, think of it as more like me jogging laboriously and with much huffing and puffing up a fairly shallow incline whilst Azazel strolls casually alongside saying “Keep it up, you’re doing very well!” 😀

  • patmcf

Nice mate ,how come everyone else’s greens look better than mine ,eh!

    • Wudugast

A common protest of mine as well; “dammit, how come everyone else’s work always looks so good compared to mine?” Comes from spending so long staring at your own work, plus it’s not just the Orks that are always greener on the other side of the fence 🙂
