See You Later Alligator

Just a quick one today but this reptilian beastman (as opposed to a lizardman) has been sitting on my desk waiting to be finished for what seems like absolutely ages. A couple of days ago I realised that despite work on him stalling completely he really only needed another twenty minutes or so to be completed – and thus inspired I knuckled down.

Croc Man Wudugast Convert Or Die (1)Croc Man Wudugast Convert Or Die (2)

Amongst the various projects I have planned – but which are as yet untouched – I’d like to paint up an old school chaos warband based around the Knightmare Miniatures range, and so this cantankerous looking crocodile will hopefully be joined in due course by a savage brotherhood. Probably not for a while though as I’m trying to tame my spirit animal, the hobby butterfly, and focus on a few key projects for the time being.

Like the armour. Is that a brown wash you have used? In any event I really like the way it has turned out and It gives it a swamp feel to me.

Cracking job mate, lovely old-school vibe! I’ve got some of these beastmen kicking around somewhere too… really must get around to them!

  • Alexis West

Not a whole lot to say. Looks great, wouldn’t want to meet him in a dark alley or anything!

  • Azazel

Very cool! I’ve never seen this model before? Is it a GW one from the old “animal beastmen” range, or somewhere else?

    • Wudugast

Cheers! It’s from Knightmare Miniatures, part of the Pantheon of Chaos range. They do a lot of good stuff, a lot of it inspired by older era GW models, Realm of Chaos books etc. They had another Kickstarter recently to bulk out the beastmen range, think my order should be on its way soon 🙂 Their orcs and goblins are also worth a look, mostly Kev Adams sculpts. Not sure who sculpted the Chaos range though.

Ah, I know those guys. I’ve been tempted by a couple of their campaigns, but I’ve managed to hold off. I’ve got enough of the “real” Oldhammer stuff in my backlog, but I’m sure one day I’ll succumb..

He’s cool man. The green looks great. I’ll check out there range but if I get sidetracked from my Nids project I’m blaming you and I will have my revenge dammit!!!!!! Were you a fan of the ninja turtles cartoon? I always liked LeatherNeck. 👍🏼

    • Wudugast

Cheers dude! Don’t blame me though, if you get distracted it’s entirely your own doing! No, funnily enough I was never into the Turtles, even though they were a huge craze when I was at primary school. We didn’t have TV until I was 11 (couldn’t get a decent signal mostly because there was a bloody great mountain in the way, but dad didn’t want me watching it too much when I was young anyway, which now I’m grown up I completely agree with – in fact I don’t have a TV at home these days either). Anyway, by the time we had TV the turtles were past and gone. I was also a bit of a cool lone wolf when I was that age, I did have a few mates were into it but no-one who’s house I really hung out at where I could watch it.

How is life in the cave man? Haha. To be honest I could quite easily walk away from the telly. The only electrical item I couldn’t live without is some sort of music playing device. Record player preferably. I do like movies and tv shows but not enough to be ruled by them. I remember being out for dinner with some friends once and they said they had to get going because they didn’t want to miss an episode of Dexter. What the shit? Either that or they just didn’t like the way I ate everything with my hands and feet. Turtles were so cool but revisiting them left em cold whereas the old GI Joe cartoons still get me excited haha.

      • Wudugast

Ah, it’s not so bad in the cave – it’s a bit drafty sometimes and there’s dangerous wildlife wanders in from time to time but I’ve recently tamed something I call “fire” so things are looking up!
Seriously I completely agree, if I could only have one electrical item it would be something to play music on. I enjoy films and tv shows but there’s more out there now than I have the time or enthusiasm to keep up with and pretty much everything I want to see I watch online. Partly I’ll admit it’s an ideological opposition to the BBC – I don’t want to be paying them anything if I can help it. (You have to pay for a TV licence to watch anything live in this country and it goes to the BBC and their pricks).
I also just hate the idea of being ruled by tv shows. I like to follow a story as it progresses, if I’m into something enough to watch it I want to catch every episode in order, and that needs to be at a time that suits me. If I was your mate in the Dexter example I wouldn’t want to miss an episode of something I was following either but I’m not going to interrupt hanging out with my mates just because it happens to be showing at that particular moment. I’m not letting the machines rule me damn it, TV happens when I say it happens (seriously, you can’t give them an inch, I’ve seen the Terminator, I know how this ends up…).
The other problem is that when you have a TV you end up watching a lot of crap. You’ll probably get this as well having a physical, outdoor job, but sometimes you come home, you’re knackered and you just want to throw yourself down in a chair and veg out for a bit. Then someone comes in and sticks the TV on and suddenly you realise you’ve just sat there and watched six episodes of the Great British Bake Off, or Rich People Buy Houses, or some other unbelievable guff…

      • imperialrebelork

Oh wow I thought the tv license thing was from the olden days when mum n dad were young. I didn’t realise it was still a thing. That’s crazy!

      • Wudugast

Yup. This is Britain, things just don’t modernise that fast!

      • imperialrebelork

Haha. Here I was thinking Australia was behind the times

  • imperialrebelork

Just checked out the minis. They’ve definitely captured the old school feel. I quite like the green skins but NOOOoo I have enough projects. Be strong IRO… Be strong. Has Alex, Warburton and Azazels seen the range? I’d imagine they’d quite like them.

    • Wudugast

Yeah, those greenskins are just gorgeous man. I’ve got a bunch of them I need to paint too actually. If you see the comments above you’ll note that Alex says he has some squirreled away that he needs to get around to painting, and Azazel asks where I got it from. Warburton I cannot speak for but he’s usually a man who knows his stuff with this kind of thing so I’d be surprised if he hasn’t at least looked at them.
(As for having too many projects on the go – tell me about it! And now Warcry is going to arrive to top it all off and I’ll finally be buried beneath a landslide of plastic, resin and lead…)

      • imperialrebelork

Geeeeeezzzz don’t even mention warcry. My wallet is already trembling with fear for the inevitable daylight robbery haha. Alllllll the models in alllllll the warbands look radical. Yes I said radical, due to all this talk about heroes on a half shell.

      • Wudugast

Yeah, Warcry is pretty damn gorgeous. I’m really impressed with the Untamed Beasts, The Iron Golems and the Unmade but the Corvus Cabal wins it for me. I keep changing my mind on the Cypher Lords, when I first saw them I thought they might be the best yet, then I fell out of love with them a bit, now I’m back to loving them. The only ones I’m not entirely sure on are the Splintered Fang, which everyone else seems to love, but just look a bit off to me. I think the main issue is the one with the net and I’m still tempted by them, just want to tackle some of the others first and then might need to make some tweaks and conversions when I get around to them.

      • imperialrebelork

The Golems look like a cross between skitarii and Khorne but soooo cool. The cypher lords and the splintered fangs are my least favourite but I’ll still get them. Corvus and the untamed are my top two!!! Can’t wait but I’m determined to stick with NIDs.

      • imperialrebelork

Will you be doing one of your famous reviews???

      • Wudugast

Dunno – I’d like to but they eat up a lot of time and that’s something that’s in short supply at the moment (my Knight review ended up as some notes that I rolled into that last post about my own Knight) so probably not in the end, but you never know.

      • imperialrebelork

Yeah fair call. Time isn’t freely available to me at present either. Retirement in twenty years though haha

      • imperialrebelork

Also, one more thing haha, a lot of the standard Cadian gear on the GW website is now marked as no longer available on line. That’s the case in Aus anyway. Do you think this could mean new IG on the horizon. Please say yes haha.

      • Wudugast

It’s still all there at the moment on the UK site but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. I’d say it’s entirely possible. The Cadians were always very generic, they were the least “40k” of all the races I thought. In some ways that worked in their favour because you could do a lot with them, and use them as a basic frame onto which more unusual models could be built. On the other hand, from GW’s perspective, there’s no a lot there than they can stamp their own IP onto. I suspect Cadia being blown to bits in the background a couple of years ago might have been the first step towards retiring them as the posterboys of the Guard and replacing them with something new. Fingers tightly crossed here too – some new Guard would be nice to see!

      • imperialrebelork

It’d be sooooo cool and long overdue.

  • Pete S/ SP

Great job on that model, looks a bit like Dragonborn from D&D…..

    Cheers,

    Pete.

    • Wudugast

Cheers! Yeah, I see the resemblance. I was never much into D&D and it’s been ages since I looked at the art (used to love the pictures for some reason) but now I’ve reminded myself of what a Dragonborn looks like you’re quite right – he certainly looks more like one of them than he does a GW lizardman.
