The Ladykillers – Part 6

I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve really not given House Escher the attention they deserve over the last year or so. A few gangers have made their way off the painting desk in dribs and drabs, but as yet the house can’t command the kind of strength available to the likes of the Goliaths or Genestealer Cults. Here’s a quick reminder of how the gang looks so far.

Escher Convert Or Die Wudugast

This however is a fine time to do something about that. Kicked off last year by Alex of Leadballoony, Fembruary aims to encourage hobbyists to get a few female miniatures painted, whether that in order to add a little diversity to a male-dominated collection or to help enthuse and encourage those who are battling to paint up a primarily female force such as Sisters of Battle or who keep intending to get Alarielle ready for the table but never quite get around to it. For me I intend it to be the goad I use to get a number of unpainted ladies finished including – but not limited to – filling out the ranks of the Escher gang I’ve been working on for my partner. I’ll be spreading my attention around the gang, hopefully even finding time to work on some as yet unassembled models, but my main focus will be on a group I built way back when the Necromunda box set was first released in late 2017. These include some of my favourite models I’ve assembled for the gang and so it’s high time they enjoyed some attention.

Setting the ball rolling we have a couple more gangers starting with the ruthless “Ultra” Violet.

Alongside her we have “Hydra” Sanura who I built quite some time ago, before Forge World had released their weapon upgrades packs. In those days life was hard and a ganger who wanted a hand flamer had to kitbash their own. Juves nowadays don’t know how good they have it I tell you!

My plan is to crack on with as many of the other gang members as possible this month, although before I do that there’s a very angry man I need to finish building.

Love the flamer for Hydra. I think the other should be called Uktra Violent hehe

  • Ross

They look great, dude! That flamer is brutal. Love the names too!

  • theimperfectmodeller

These look great mate. Just goes to show there is a place for female figures. Aiming to contribute to Fembruary too.

  • Pete S/ SP

Love the conversion for the flamer. Great work all round. they are still my least favourite gang to face….

    • Wudugast

Thank you! Out of curiosity, why would you say these were your least favourite to face? We’ve not really tried them out yet so I’m only working from my (still fairly sketchy) understanding of the rules, but they look like they need a bit more nuance to play than some of the others? Sorry if I’m bombarding you with tactical questions lately but you’re definitely an Underhive veteran compared to me!

      • Pete S/ SP

That is not a problem at all.

The toxin rules are what makes them so nasty. I think they have been toned down a little (as were my rad weapons) with the rules update. They were the fastest moving gang too. so they could get you from a long way away with a good chance of taking you out. In comparison Goliaths are slow and ponderous making them easy to avoid… Escher will just run rings round you.

They both look splendid. I really like the hand flamer, it has a certain steam-punk style that adds to the overall punky Escher aesthetic…great work.

Oh and if you find that Ultra Violet is working for you, my gang the Voodoo Dolls will take her in…her hair colour will fit perfectly with them 😉

    • castigatoruk

isn’t working for you, not is….D’oh!

      • Wudugast

Thank you – that’s quite the compliment! 😀 You’ve mentioned the Voodoo Dolls a couple of times now (great name by the way) – are there pictures of them anywhere online?

Must confess I’m really pleased with the hand-flamer. Getting the FW weapon sets is great but I secretly like to think mine holds up nicely alongside (which sounds like I’m fishing for compliments now – and who knows, maybe I am…).

I’m hoping to get them all finished this month as part of the Neglected Models Challenge but here are some that are finished.
I keep getting distracted by building my little corner of the Underhive and I’m in the middle of a narrative campaign that introduces a Renegade Mechanicum Warband to the Underhive.

I prefer your hand flamer to the FW efforts….it has that archaic feel to it that makes it feel like a gang heirloom.

      • Wudugast

Those are excellent! Good luck getting the rest done as well. That board is looking fantastic as well, very inspiring 🙂

      • castigatoruk

        Thanks buddy.

  • Alexis West

They both look nicely badass! Where’s the Caryatid from?

    • Wudugast

Cheers 🙂 She’s a little dragon that comes with the Daughters of Khaine Melusai, I just swapped out her head for a skull to make her look a bit more 40k.

      • Alexis West

I figured there was a head swap there, but wasn’t sure where the base dragon came from. One more reason I want to pick up that kit at some point!

Also, I forgot to mention, re: “Ultra” Violet: My own Escher gang is called the Violet Hellcats, with the motto “Violet and Violent!”

  • Alex

Superb mate, (goes without saying really), and very nice use of the DoK mini-dragon!

  • Azazel

I really like what you’ve done with these. I’ve been (mentally) telling myself that I need to finish all of the old metal Escher before I’m “allowed” to do anything with the plastics. Since I’m not actively playing Necro right now, I guess it makes sense, but when I see posts like this one…

    • Wudugast

Thank you! Well, don’t let me lead you astray – I very much admire your dedication to getting your old models painted – but equally I’m a strong believer in just letting my hair down and painting what I want, when I feel like it, and just enjoying myself. This has lead to quite a heap of half-painted models mind you…

      • Azazel

That’s exactly the reason I’m trying to force myself to have at least a bit more structure. I’m still wading through the mire of half-painted & long-neglected models. I did even recently consider making myself *only* paint already-started or neglected models for 2019…

Speak, damn you!
