Green Iz Best – Part 4

Just sneaking in another model in-between all the terrain (even though sneaking isn’t something an ork nob usually approves of!). According to the new ork codex an ork nob with a Waaagh! banner (a model with which regular readers will know I have something of a love/hate relationship) is no longer part of a squad but instead is a lone individual. Not that I pay too close attention to the rules but any excuse to paint another ork ought to be seized upon right? Surely I wasn’t expected to tolerate my poor nobs squad being a man down?

Ork Nob Convert Or Die (2)Ork Nob Convert Or Die (3)Ork Nob Convert Or Die (1)

There we go; the nobs are back to being ten strong and balance has been restored! Of course now I’ll have to start work on a second squad…

Nice one me old china. What’s the crud stuff you use on the base?

    • Wudugast

Cheers man – let’s see, there’s a mix of sand/gravel and PVA for most of the base, plus a few bits of roughly chopped sprue and plasticard to make larger rubble. The white blob at the front, which hasn’t shown up so well in the pictures, is an ork glyph.

Cheers mate. I need to start trying to make my bases a bit more interesting. Some are but most aren’t.

      • Wudugast

Yeah, same here really. I always think I’m quite lazy with my bases, I tend to end up sticking to what I know a lot of the time. I get very excited by the idea of the next model I’m going to build and I want to get on with it, I don’t want to get too hung up on a base. I also feel that a base is like a picture frame. If it’s bad, or left unfinished, it really detracts from the whole model, but if it’s too showy it can overwhelm it as well (obviously dioramas are somewhat different but the principle still applies).

Aww hell, I just threw away some chopped up pieces of sprue. The thought at the time was, “There’s no way I would use this later”. Should have known better. Maybe it’s still in my garbage….

      • Wudugast

You’ll generate more soon enough. I used to save all of mine but I’d have a house full of the stuff if I still did.

As much as I enjoy doing scenery and ground work I do like to alternate with figures too so I’m in no position to call you sneaky! Another nice one mate.

  • Alex

Sweet – loving the crazy yellow eye!!

  • Azazel

Damn, mate – you’re really tearing it up with the green boyz lately! This guy looks great on his own – now, group shot!

A Nob’s attitude toward sneakin’ can vary quite a bit by Klan. My Blood Axes and Deffskullz entirely approve of sneakin’ under the right circumstances!

Pretty standard Choppa Nob, but he looks good. Nice levels of rust, cool pistol, bolted-on extreme dentures, the works!

    • Wudugast

Hmmm… I dunno about that. Dem Blood Axes aren’t exactly propa now are dey? All dat sneakin’ about is nuffin’ to be proud of! Now I’ll give ya this, dat Snikrot is probably da best Ork der is, even betta than Ghazghkull (must paint ’em boef someday), and he’s a sneaky one. I like dem Deffskull boys though, kinda wish I’d painted my lads as them but ders a few too many to be repaintin’ ’em all now eh!

Very nice! I always liked that choppa arm. It sits nicely and is not too ‘close in’ to the body. I wish the one-handed chainaxe choppa was the same. What paints did you use for the skin?

    • Wudugast

Yeah, it’s a nice arm isn’t it – it very easily leads the model into an interesting pose. As for the skin, my recipe is Waaagh! Flesh, then Warboss Green, then Skarsnik Green. I give the fleshier areas (in the recesses of the muscles for instance) a quick wash of Reikland Fleshshade or Druchii Violet. Hope that helps 🙂

      • CC

Much appreciated! Do you use Reikland or Druchii instead of Biel-Tan Green?

      • Wudugast

I sometimes use a bit of Biel-tan but I prefer Reikland/Druchii – I think with Biel-tan there’s a risk of making it too green. Green is already the dominant colour so by mixing in a few other colours you can add depth to it and make it look a bit more natural.

I like the mini. The paints are nice, really liking the backpack, and always won over by the rust. Shame about the Banner rule change. Would that probably result in fewer banners or just more minis overall?

    • Wudugast

Thank you! No idea if serious/tournament Ork players will be getting in a lather about this change or not (no doubt the sky will be falling on them for some reason or another, it always is…) but for the majority of people it’s just an excuse to add another cool model to their collection. I think it’s mostly a business/sales decision on the part of GW, they like the whole unit to be available in a single box that they can hand to someone in a store and the banner nob is only available separately direct from GW.

      • Faust

Oh man, that kind of sucks that the banner model is only a direct purchase. Guess you can always convert your own.

      • Wudugast

Yeah, I guess it would probably be a bit annoying if you wanted to build a squad that included that particular piece of wargear and bought the box with that in mind, only to discover that you had to buy that one separately. It is a cool model though (albeit, in my experience, given to falling to bits…). Of course in my day we had to convert everything out of rocks and wrote our own rules on bits of mud, and we were glad of it!

    Nice work there.

    Cheers,

    Pete.
